Recommend me some books on the failure of conservatism in the West.

I'm talking particularly about the conservatives' failure to defend traditional values, their ubiquitous acceptance of liberalism, their paradoxical alliance with free-marketeerism, and their relegation in society to impotent whiners who criticise the culture's trajectory but don't actually do anything to change it.

The prime example of what I am talking about is the Conservative Party in Britain. They are basically Labour, but a bit more sensible.

You can read about Metapolitics from Gramsci.
His point is that cultural and ideological takeovers precede political victories. In the case of britain progressive values are disseminated through media, entertainment, art and education to the point that by the time they are brought in the political sphere they lready won.

Otherwise there are plenty of books about neoliberalism out there.

If you want a specific author search for Alain de Benoist, basically one of the main thinker of the New Right.

Yeah but why was there no conservative push-back, that's my question. Why did they fail to provide a counternarrative?

Modern conservatism is Burkean conservatism which has always been liberal and pro-free market. And debatably also impotent whiners.
