Has this region (Malesia/Malay Archipelago) wrote anything worth reading? It's honestly a complete black hole for me knowledge wise.

Indonesian here. Right now there aren't. But someday there will be. Once I publish my magnum opus on philosophy. Right now I'm just studying metaphysics in general from Atlas of Reality. But soon, I want to take on contemporary philosophical questions. Particularly, what interests me the most is the Hard Problem of Consciousness.

The good bits of Philippine literature is kinda hard to get by, my local library's Filipiniana section is the only one that holds an extant print of Apóstol's work for example. But you can scour the whole internet someone's got to scanned something...don't know if it'd be worth it though

Filipinobro here. Gonna share with you some genuine classics from my country. The first two are from our National hero and most famous author (both local and internationally). The third one in the bottom is by a Poet who was friends with American writers such as E.E. Cummings and Conrad Aiken

In Anthropological terms its home to some fascinating cultures. Gamelan music is beautiful and complex yet completely different from western traditions. How indonesian culture proved influential amongst western artists such as claude debussy john cage or antonin artaud and philosophers like gregory bateson or gilles deleuze. The island of bali in particular preserved many peculiar traits from before the arrival of islam. See books such as clifford geertz' negara the theater state in 19th century bali or bateson and mead's photographic exploration of balinese character, lansing's priests and programmers technologies of power in the engineered landscape. How traditional balinese culture prefigured 20th century ideas on systems thinking ecology and cybernetics.
After WWII there was a deliberate effort to reshape american (and world) culture on the model of bali. To go Beyond the troubling western tendency for climax(which means the bomb or communist revolution) into a culture based on sustained plateaux of intensity.

I mean I like their Hispanic history and influence but it seems they're actively forgetting about that cultural history and making their own while borrowing a lot from the anglosphere specially (and obviously) from the US.
That's like saying that Spain will always be Roman while yes it's true that they speak a romantic language and they're hugely influence by the Roman empire they're their own thing.
Now that's a difference of 100 or so years of independence compared to 1600 years yes there is but it was the only analogy I could think of lol.
Anyway wasn't 31 minutos great?

I mean are you joking?
I think you're putting under the wrong a lot of atrocities.
And I'm not someone here to shit all over it because I think the current status of what's left of the native population is "better" than what the French and English did (don't know about the Portuguese though)
I also don't know how much of their "better" status is a product of just circumstances or better morality/policies
