I'm changing up the style of books I read from historical nonfiction to more surreal stuff. I read Coin Locker Babies by Ryo Murakami, and I really liked the surrealism in that book. I'm doubling down on the surrealism, and I've already got Alice in Wonderland and Codex Seraphinianus in my list of books to read. Any recommendations for surreal, strange, and abstract books?

They aren't exactly surrealist but Alain Robbe-Grillet, Raymond Queneau, and Beckett's novels aren't that far off from the movement.

I didn't know about this chart, thank you. Any suggestions on which to start with or can I just dive in?

>Codex Seraphinianus
Not really a book book but more an inspired collection of surreal art. If that's what you're into try looking into Salvador Dali art.

If you want surreal bizarre literature that's weird af but also pretty readable try The Strange Library by Haruki Murakami.

Codex Seraphinianus is cool, but it's not really a book meant to be 'read' so-to-speak.
If you liked Coin Locker Babies, I think you would like Naked Lunch.

Will mention that The Opposing Shore may tie in nicely with you interest in history. It is on the lean side as far as surrealism goes. Really great book as well.
