Is Calvin a waste of time? Everyone seems to refute Calvinism

>> No.19728492

Calvinism is enjoyable in three different ways:
>if you enjoy aspects and insights of its theology even if you think it is overall wrong
>if you like Calvinist thinkers and theologians who often ignore the more notorious parts of Calvinism and just do philosophy within a vaguely "Calvinist worldview" (while either not mentioning the other stuff or with only the occasional nod or shibboleth)
>if you are a hardcore Calvinist of some kind (these do exist)

Like Luther, Erasmus, Melanchthon, Jonathan Edwards, Swedenborg, etc., Calvin has interesting ideas even if you disagree with his overall framework.

One of my best friends was a calvinist.

I find his statue in Geneva quite pretty, I recommend every anon to spend a takeover lunch there.

>> No.19730186

Calvinism is heretical and retarded but at the same time beyond fucking based since it means you have complete and total unwavering faith in God.

Yes Calvinism is a waste of time. Their five tenets are balooney & most of his followers contradict him and his origins belief systems similar to Martin Luther.

T. Former Calvinist.

Read this to understand why he got refuted: https://orthodoxbridge.com/2018/11/09/orthodoxys-official-response-to-calvinism-the-confession-of-dositheus-1673/

In addition, most Protestants who believe Calvins followers’ work and tenets believe that God is the author of all evil and that he sends out storms and natural disasters to kill people

Some people even believe that personal tragedy is through God and not instead a product of sin.

Long story short it’s a waste of time.

John Piper is one of these people I wonder if you could find the YouTube clip where he talks about a recent natural tragedy that killed a bunch of people and how it’s all part of the plan. These people are brainwashed bro.

However if you want a book to read about the history of Calvinism and its origins, read a Rock and Sand by Fr Trenham (it’s an Orthodox book and a good historical reference.)

No, if you care at all about Christianity and Theology you should read The Institutes of the Christian Religion and good supplemental books like The Unaccommodated Calvin.

>The Unaccommodated Calvin: Studies in the Foundation of a Theological Tradition by Richard A. Muller (Oxford University Press)

The only good reformer there ever was is Ficino.
Sorry if you're too ignorant to even understand what is implied in this claim.
