I liked them, not the ending though.

i dont think i even finished the third one. shit got repetitive.
>dragons

idk i was young tho so i could just be brushing over a lot of themes

I think either the 2nd or 3rd was my favorite. It wasn't all that good and Roran was the best character but I liked Paolini's descriptions and pacing.

Man even as a kid I knew they were trash. I still read them because fuck trying something new I guess
Hammber boy was cool, hacking magic was cool. That scene with two mages locked in silent combat until one fucks up and turns to salt is great
>>19712682
Only "theme" I can remember/imagine is Eragon knowingly being an underdog and trying to be better than their peers, which I took to be a stand in for Pionono's progress as an author

And he gets his ass carried by ancient dragon hearts in the final conflict. Was that supposed to be an allusion to all the help he received when writing? Would make sense if it were.

my favorite part was when eragon travelled to the elves and forged a sword with the assistance of the old elf lady. I read that part over and over.

Yeah having the elf possess him and make him forge the sword was an awesome idea.

Yeah the whole magic system was really well layed out. I loved looking up all the words at the back of the book.

They actually hold up surprisingly decently for books written by a 16 year old. The ending of the final book where he just leaves and departs into the east felt pretty unsatisfying, I guess he didn't really know how to finish it.

Has Paolini written anything since? Havent followed him

The movie made no sense to me because the guys they cast as Eragon and Roran looked the exact same to me, so I didn't get why sometimes Eragon had a doppleganger. Only when I read the books later on I realized they were supposed to be different characters.

>> No.19713859

>>19713840
Watching the movie after reading the first two books was a huge disappointment. Eragon is by no means unique and outstanding, but the movie didn't do it any service (not that uncommon with adaptations) and I was mixed on Eragon not getting his back slashed open at the end, they clearly had no plans to make a sequel.

Murtagh was the coolest character. It was such a good twist when he became a villain and then a hero again. He was the most complex character of the series.

My favorite part was the whole sub plot of Eragon's mom cucking her husband with Eragon's dad who only seduced her to kill her husband, but she falls so hard for her that she starts helping him. Kino. I bet he had an amazing dick.

200 pages into the first one of these, and I'm really liking it. I hate fantasy, I've never seen the show and likely never will. But the book's good so far.

I was the same. Opening up with strange tree and Ned with his sword was powerful imagery.
The rest of the books continuously devolve into strings of nonsense. Shit happens but none of it really connects, nothing really converges. It's a mess of ever-expanding outward pointing arrows with no discernible themes that I can make sense of and it reads like a script.

Some time in my early 20s I went and read all the YA I missed out on because I was already reading genreshit for adults. Holes, Artemis Fowl, Brave Story; pretty much the whole shortlist of award winners from the fin de siècle. I still keep up from time to time but the trends aren't to my taste.

All things considered it’s probably because it’s a children’s book. I personally loved it and read the series multiple times. I was beginning to think I was the only one. The final book ‘Terminal’ was always a bitch to read because it goes for like $100 on ebay so I had to order it from an out-of-town library

It's a children's/young teen book. It's not mind blowing.
That said, it's pretty well-written YA stuff. There's a bunch of back and forth between the good guys and bad guys out smarting each other that I remember being impressed by.
I'd say read the first one if you're piqued. If you like that, read up through The Opal Deception. If you can stomach that much, finish the rest, but it's downhill from there.
