19644675 No.19644675 [Reply] [Original]

I am someone who loves romance in novels. I read YA and romance. However, I hate novels that are mundane… like normal, regular people jobs. I hate friends to lovers. I would rather not read romcoms.
I like mafia romances and I love fantasy where it’s a mortal x supernatural or supernatural x supernatural. I love drama and tension then the moment characters actually get together. I love angst, aggression on both sides and unhinged male love interests. I also like bittersweet over happy endings.

A lot of women into the romance genre love to read the official definition of Romance by the genre which ends with a HEA. They say they like that because they want to escape into these books. I prefer to not know where the ending is heading. I also like to cry.

I also don’t need explicit sex scenes… i get off on slow burn… the tension thru dialogue, touches, uncomfortable moments, etc.

Is anyone else like this? What does this say about me?

Thus, do not lollygag and accompany hither alongst thy novel lord of matchless infatuation. Let us share in the delectation of modish adoration. Let fall your knickers and hinge anteriorly at thy loins. Sanction me to engulf my visage betwixt thy rosy cheeks and inspire thy flatulating gusts of divine olfactory savour and let us have knowledge of each other's viscera and thereby according to Biblical law transmogrify into one fetid flesh.

Perhaps your family was too strict on enforcing morals on you e.g. a Catholic household, and you want nothing to do with a quiet and peaceful life. For instance, you repressed some of your instincts as a kid because your parents were strict, so you associate repressive/passive romance with negative feelings. So you turn to adventure, danger, fantasy, suspense, aggression, freedom from the mundane.

I believe the source of this is your childhood and your relationship with your parents or your dad more specifically. It arises from the things he wanted from you, the way he compelled you to do it, and the way you reacted to it.

As for what's next for you, there's nothing wrong with your preferences. You sound fun, adventurous, and you can have a playful romantic relationship. You may lean towards bad boys so you may get your heart broken a few times, but that's part of the adventure. It may be difficult to find the right person, and you may have to explore quite a bit, but you'll most likely find happiness in a fun relationship with a fine gentleman. You're still young at the moment, so you should just enjoy your youth and the romantic years, but try to look into settling down by the time you're 28.

It's possible. Usually I don't relate to protagonists who are good people either. I generally don't like characters who are attractive, smart, or even heroic. I'm more drawn to an anti-hero who is ugly and unlikable in some dimension of personality in which things tend to not go their way. Whenever I watch a show with attractive protagonists I generally hate all of them. I think those kind of characters just remind me of a type of person that I will never be, that will always gets things that I will never have, and be treated in ways that I never will. Sometimes I can warm up to such characters, but usually not.

I love visual novels. My tastes have changed (to avoid saying 'developed' or 'matured', both which have greatly childish connotations) greatly over the years, yet these oftentimes pornographic picture books have stayed as a constant in my daily routine. I love the romance aspect to them and their escapist design, yet I completely hate trite moege (a term coined to refer towards those entries in the genre that focus solely on slice of life comedy, being as inoffensive as possible) merely because they're boring as fuck. That's it. Romance is better executed with actual stakes, conflict to let the characters properly develop and emotional tension to really drag you into the story and make a connection. Whether it's fantasy, science fiction, or any other common and highly trope-y genres I don't mind; it's all about proper execution and, frankly, fiction with neither philosophical value nor at least some sort of excitement is just triteness personified.
It's nothing new. You'd rather have a story that ends and actually explores somewhat interesting possibilities over boring and overtly emotional drivel that in spite of its setting feels as detached from the human experience as conceivably possible. The only thing this all says about you is that you're not as easily entertained, congratu-fucking-lations. Amazed this thread got this many replies.
