More importantly, are there any books examining the COVID pandemic you would recommend at the moment? Or is it too early to find a nonpartisan, deep analysis of this era and its broader fallout?

I just want to find books or discussion that try to understand to this crisis from a societal perspective. Essentially, how all these rifts have developed on an individual level. I believe there is something really subtle going on caused by an obsession with metrics, data science, and the proliferation of the internet (primarily the smartphone) and social media. All of this is uncharted territory that has emerged in the last 20-odd years and humans do not seem to be coping well with it. I do not want any conspiratard nonsense.

while GMOshit is generally save to eat, what the ultimate concern is that corp/state forces are trying to privatize genetic data. Not sure about the rest of this book, but a section I flipped through was genuinely retarded. The author talks about how Fauci destroyed Dunesburg's career which seemed kind of fucked up, but Dunesberg is a total sperg/autistic retard. In the book he cites no (read not a single one) scientific papers, and does not mention at all that Dunesberg maintains that HIV is "a harmless passenger virus." Dunesberg said that AIDS is exclusively from the gay lifestyle which, although definitely is why it spread, is obviously not what causes AIDS. I would be sceptical about basically everything the author says based off of this, and personally I assume the entire book is schlock courtesy of a big clown.

Then you haven't done your own research. I understand the hesitance of ascribing malice to one or two boogeyman, especially Bill Gates. It reeks of the George Soros obsession. But like both obsessions, there's truth to it. A lot. As for Fauci alone - he funded gain of function research in the Wuhan lab after the US government suspended GOF experiments at the US. He funneled money to conduct these experiments off shore. He collaborated in finding ways to patent every aspect of SARS (response, detection, measurement kit, PPE, etc.) to authorize who was allowed to study it, since they couldn't patent a natural virus itself.

The details are complicated but he very much had an active role in funding the experiments that released the virus, there's no doubt about that. This was a long time in the making. Fauci lecture in 2017:
