"Wahabbi Islam" by Natana DeLong-Bas is well researched and readable.

If you are interested in studying jihadism/al-Qaeda then Wahabbi Islam is not nearly as relevant as the work and history of Qutb.

It is Qutb who is the immediate theological influence. There is a good text called "The al-Qaeda reader" that contains interesting writings from al Qaeda's point of view justifying their manner of violence.

Temper these perhaps against "Islam, Fundamentalism and the Betrayel of Tradition" ed. SH Nasr. The Jihadis are an overwhelming minority and are condemned by traditional Islamic Sharia, Sunni and Shia. That is a fact.

The only thing I don't understand about 9/11 is the video where Bin Laden is talking to his comrades and seems to admit his involvement in the attack. Yet in public statements he outrightly denies involvement (not usual of terrorists), and obviously there's a ton of evidence it was an inside job.
So was the video doctored by the CIA or what? It's disgraceful that Bin Laden was executed without a trial so we couldn't get the full story.
