I don't really understand why RWBB always try to cite Greek philosophers to support their lifestyle because the prevailing belief among the Greeks from Plato on was that the body is evil and needs to be escaped. I am myself a bodybuilder but I just don't know why RWBBs do this.

Zyzz used to say he would get "checked out" much more by men than women, which makes sense since lots of guys do admire the hard work.

There are two sides to that though. Athletic and physical excellence divorced of any sexual aspect is clearly a thing, but it also attracts homosexual attention.

I think we dont actually have a working theory of what homosexuality in humans is at all, psychologically. I find gay culture somewhat distasteful but I also understand that there have been very great gay artists, Michaelangelo, Proust, James, etc.

I think gay men are kind of misguided. Like it's not the right way to express their feelings. I don't think they're totally wrong for it but the entire way gay culture works out, there is something bad about it. People are generally very fucked up so I dont judge the gays too harshly, would be hypocritical of me, but I can't really see the phenomenon as positive. I do see that they still have a connection to what is good, they aren't just wholly perverse, but it doesnt really make sense.

I guess for me I see gays as slightly tragic. Not evil, but like they have been given an affliction.

You can appreciate a nude male body. Including "their cocks".
But not because "their cocks" are big or whatever, simply a part of the male body.

>> No.19601350

In the Renaissance statues of nude males often signified an ideal of purity, good behaviour, to aspire to.
The cultivation of an athletic body was a dedication to clean living and "moral" behaviour.
Therefore: the athletic male body stands for a type of admirable noble state of mind manifest in the appearance of the body.

For it is silly, my dear Lucilius, and no way for an educated man to behave, to spend one’s time exercising the biceps, broadening the neck and shoulders and developing the lungs. Even when the extra feeding has produced gratifying results and you’ve put on a lot of muscle, you’ll never match the strength or the weight of a prize ox.
>So keep the body within bounds as much as you can and make room for the spirit. Devotees of physical culture have to put up with a lot of nuisances. There are exercises, in the first place, the toil involved which drains the vitality and renders it unfit for concentration or the more demanding sort of studies.
>Next there is the heavy feeding, which dulls mental acuteness. Then there is the taking on as coaches of the worst brand of slave, persons who divide their time between putting on lotion and putting down liquor, whose idea of a well spent day consists of getting up a good sweat and then replacing the fluid lost with plenty of drink, all the to be absorbed on a dry stomach.
>Drinking and perspiring -- it's the life of a dyspeptic!

bonus material:
>Writers who have left us a record of life in ancient Rome tell us that it was just their arms and legs, which of course they dirtied working, that people washed every day, bathing all over only once a week on market day. ‘Obviously,’ someone will comment, ‘there must have been times when they were positively disgusting.’ And what do you think they stank of? I’ll tell you – of hard soldiering, of hard work, of all that goes to make up a man.

>Everyone’s pages ride along with their faces smeared with cream in case the sun or the cold should spoil their delicate complexions; one is ashamed if there is no member of one’s retinue of boys whose healthy cheeks call for protection with cosmetics. With all such people you should avoid associating.

>In cold fact, you have failed to achieve the finest kind of song. You organize your state as though it were a military camp rather than a society of people who have settled in towns, and you keep your young fellows together like a herd of colts at grass. Not a man among you takes his own colt and drags him, furiously protesting, away from the rest of the herd; you never put him in the hands of a private groom, and train him by combing him down and stroking him. You entirely fail to lavish proper care on an education which will turn him out not merely a good soldier but a capable administrator of a state and its towns. Such a man is, as we said early on, a better fighter than those of Tyrtaeus, precisely because he does not value courage as the principal element in virtue: he consistently relegates it to fourth place wherever he finds it, whether in the individual or the state.

>> No.19601764

>>19601723
>"Because the second degree—that is, a fine, regular form—properly constitutes beauty, it can be a good herald inasmuch as it promises an equally regular spirit, one that is perhaps placid, like a calm sea on a summer’s evening, gentle, incapable of great passion, be it good or ill; in short, it promises a tranquil, balanced, and orderly heart and mind. The reasons for this I gave earlier, but what they promise is admittedly nothing more than a hint, and just as a certain writer calls this regular form, if it be not enlivened by spiritual charms, a statuesque beauty, so the regularity of the spirit, which is supposed to accompany it, can likewise be the disposition to all that is beautiful, but often it remains mere disposition. Just as outwardly this regularity is intended only for the eye, so inwardly it also belongs, if not among the mute, then at least among the quiet charms that will never disturb, but seldom enliven, a spiritual pleasure."

>"Perhaps this is the appropriate juncture to mention that the greatest men have mostly possessed irregular features, because the passion that elevated them to greatness also caused them to develop early. Conversely, those handsome and suave gentlemen whose minds are filled with the portrait of their bodies are usually born only to convey, nurture, and delight in the thought “My, how beautiful I am!” Julius Caesar may always have carried a picture of Venus with him, whose son he claimed to be; but he will have shown it mostly to ladies. In the Roman senate and in the three hundred battles that made him great, he surely never thought that he was a beautiful man—but of course after his triumphs he did so all the more."

>> No.19601786

>>19601262
Women are aroused by themselves feeling beautiful. they're not sensitive to beauty in men at all unless they're looking for themselves in their mate.
its one thing to be in good shape, it's another to beautify yourself or other men and this is inescapably homosexual as its feminine, despite the body in question being male.
women hunt for beauty in themselves, so they can experience it as brought about by the other, men hunt for beauty in the other so they can experience the other.
women cant go too much against their nature and its readily apparent. an example is when I was a line cook at a bdubs in a college town, it had just opened so it had all kinds of hot ass college girls walking around in leggings. their asses were a central, vital part of my life. their asses were a central, vital part of their lives as well. manass meant nothing to them and they would consider that gay if it was implied otherwise.
the ancients knew this, however their def of homosexuality was to passively receive, to take on the female role.
they didn't live under a sociopolitical rubric similar to ours. there, citizenship was limited to men of a certain type. women were intrinsic others no matter what. the notion of them as fleshless social ciphers taking part in a 'secular' relationship where labels such as LGBT could be applied was incomprehensible to them. the notion that men find women beautiful ergo women find men beautiful just never occurred because women were wholly different creatures.
tl;dr they were gay by our definition, not by their own

No. What a disgrace it is for a man to grow old without ever coming to terms with his own absolute impotence. The Western idea of procrastination is very curious: consider a road across which there is something that one wants but the traffic is such that one can never get across without dying, between wanting to cross and deciding against crossing, which best fits the diagnosis of procrastination? It is the FORMER which is the secondary, lying, parasitic, etc. thought preventing the realization of the latter. Childhood fantasy of potence are indefinitely prolonged by attempting to traverse them into the reality of potence, which does not exist, and are only properly traversed by one readily entering the reality of impotence.

Absolute subhumans you lot are. How well you are able to think depends on your physical strength and health. Physiognomy is not a meme - even the old Greek homos understood this. This is the long version, and a better translation:

>Because our city does not practise military training in public, (7) that is no reason for neglecting it in private, but rather a reason for making it a foremost care. For be you assured that there is no contest of any sort, nor any transaction, in which you will be the worse off for being well prepared in body; and in fact there is nothing which men do for which the body is not a help. In every demand, therefore, which can be laid upon the body it is much better that it should be in the best condition; since, even where you might imagine the claims upon the body to be slightest—in the act of reasoning—who does not know the terrible stumbles which are made through being out of health? It suffices to say that forgetfulness, and despondency, and moroseness, and madness take occasion often of ill-health to visit the intellectual faculties so severely as to expel all knowledge (8) from the brain. But he who is in good bodily plight has large security. He runs no risk of incurring any such catastrophe through ill-health at any rate; he has the expectation rather that a good habit must procure consequences the opposite to those of an evil habit; (9) and surely to this end there is nothing a man in his senses would not undergo.... It is a base thing for a man to wax old in careless self-neglect before he has lifted up his eyes and seen what manner of man he was made to be, in the full perfection of bodily strength and beauty. But these glories are withheld from him who is guilty of self-neglect, for they are not wont to blaze forth unbidden. (10)

Lifting made me realize how fulfilling it is to make the best of yourself and how pathetic and weak social movements often encourage people to be. It was my gateway drug since I finally used some type of will power for once, I’m not sure how this is a bad thing, if you are perhaps accusing me of being a grifter, I’ll tell you that all of my peers and my smartest most educated family members with phds, have grifted towards socialism and cringe breadtubers. I have not

A lot of people that are into fitness agree that modern bodybuilding is fucking atrocious, me included I think they look hideous and their lifestyles are awful, someone in this thread mentioned the flawed concept of lifting just for the sake of lifting and not putting it to use, I agree with that fully, bodybuilding is exactly the opposite of that and that’s why they look so disgusting

>[starting strength] says very clearly that your training is heavily dependant on training the mind and nervous system before training the body
it has been a while since I've read starting strength but the book hammers home the point that training the nervous system comes with training the body and everything in the book relates back to this, from the massive emphasis on correct form to the specific exercises chosen and the amount of sets/reps you should be doing, I never once got the impression that the book suggests training the nervous system before the body or that these two things can even be divorced. as far as training the mind goes I don't remember the book having anything to say about this beyond the obvious stuff like 'lifting heavy teaches you hard work' or advice for rank beginners that have never touched a barbell and have fundamentally flawed ideas about weight lifting or gaining muscle

Apparently you triggered the piss out of some weakling coper with this, but actually there's nothing surprising in it. Those who hate beauty and strength and reject them as ideals and foundations for happiness are, as a rule, those who do not have them; a coping strategy, sour grapes. Once you pulled yourself out of this mire you understood that the pure ideals are also the correct, timeless ones and that irony and its attendant sophistries are contemptible attempts to hide from one's own failure and, worse, one's superiors: those who have what one does not. All ideologies of envy are narcissistic, small-natured, and shrink the soul.

It depends on how often you spar, how often you get hit on the head, and with what intensity. Unless you are planning on going pro and dedicating your entire life to the sport, it’s not worth sparring often, a couple of good spars and fights with the boys every few months is good enough and gives your brain a solid amount of time to recover minimizing any drastic injury. There’s also pro boxers that walked away completely fine.
The conclusion is that if you are looking to do it for a hobby spend most of your time training without fighting directly, jump rope, a bit of weightlifting shadow boxing and such. This will minimize most damage, almost everything good in life has a certain amount of risk to it, I for one think it’s a good trade to experience the freedom of violence every once in a while in a properly paced manner. My goal with boxing isn’t going pro, I box because fighting every once in a while is good for the soul

Vegans aren't making a healthy choice though. /fit/ threads become insufferable because there's always a bunch of posters in them coping super hard about their choice to have a less functional and aesthetic body. Actually, a more apt comparison would be between vegan posters and people who overly-justify their choice to not workout because both are taking a personal choice and trying to sell it as healthy when it is objectively the unhealthier choice.
