Snowcrash, except instead of the virtual becoming real, the Sumerian language is a firmware package for the human brain. Still has VR and a cyberpunk setting though.

Neuropath - actually getting at the opposite side of things. Not "what if virtual information could become synonymous with reality," but "what if the eliminative materialists and epiphenomenalists are right and meaning is just illusory and we face a semantic apocalypse. The author has a fantasy series that gets at the same idea, plus others, but it's long as shit and not sci-fi.

Borges was fascinated with the Gnostics and a number of stories get at somewhat similar ideas, but at a deeper level. Dude is considered one of, or the best writer of the 20th century in literary circles for a reason. It's all short stories so they are quick. Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius, The House of Asterion, The Library of Babel, The Book of Sand, The Lottery of Babylon, The Roses of Paracelsus, The Writing of the God, The Circular Ruins (this last one is a good story but so many works have since copied Borges' twist that it doesn't have the crazy impact that it did for reviewers back in the 40s).

Also Victor Pelevin for weird philosophical semiscifi fiction. Helmet of Horror is all one chat log and is quite good. Sacred Book of the Werewolf is meh. I liked Homozapiens, but he obviously hadn't matured as a writer yet.

Ha, there is actually overlap here, but probably not what OP is looking for.
