The older I get the more I think this. I've only known a few really happy women and they were very odd and usually conscious of it. Most of what people would consider the "luckiest" women I've known, genetically gifted or born into good families, had personalities and worldviews surprisingly similar to incel coping mechanisms. the only two contemporary female poets i know are anne carson and louise gluck
anne carson is really fucking good. she's a classics scholar and a translator and writes incredibly lucid wonderful translations of greeks, but also her own poetry which is super interesting.
louise gluck won the nobel prize the other year and i've read a few things and found them mixed. she has a fairly simple unpretentious style, plain and clear. sometimes it's very effective - i found the wild iris which is all about flowers (which are metaphors for other spiritual stuff obviously) very good. but other things left me cold and it felt a bit basic.
anyway i don't either of them have reason to cringe looking back on their work
