fit and lit complement each other well despite our differences in perspective about the importance of our hobbies. What both seek to better ourselves in our own ways, whether intellectual or physical. But true men on either board will seek to improve themselves in both aspects: intellectually and physically.

I don't read to "improve" myself intellectually though, I do it because I enjoy it and it's good to relax.

/fit/'s problem is that it demands constant work and sees everything in very rigid, unemotional terms of goals and records, rather than simply enjoying things for what they are.

Pretty much all of the Greeks and Romans lifted religiously and they were some of the greatest thinkers in all recorded history. They swore by it.
Plato, an olympic champion wrestler was nicknamed "He of broad shoulders"
Aristotle, too.
>"No citizen has a right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training...what a disgrace it is for a man to grow old without ever seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable"

You're a pleb. Reminds me of low self esteem redditors who believe anyone with an athletic physique has to be stupid. Deep rooted jealousy and insecurity is bad, my friend. A readied physique is essential to being Ubermensch, or trying to be, anyway. Stay Unter.

I didn't even try to prove anything, well, nothing other than that being fit and pursuing knowledge is an ideal combination, you dunce. I must be though since you saw it that way.
Also, arrogance is fine. I'd rather be arrogant than a worm of a man, afraid to offend anyone or anything.

>Amusing how you can call others insecure and come out with this crap without feeling any cognitive dissonance.
What's insecure about that, fatso?
It's quite clear to me that you have a shit physique paired with mediocre intelligence and took offence because your bubble of false superiority burst when you realised all fit people aren't stupid, it went against everything your mommy told you to comfort you, didn't it? >Aristodemus said that Eryximachus, Phaedrus, and others went away — he himself fell asleep, and as the nights were long took a good rest: he was awakened towards daybreak by a crowing of cocks, and when he awoke, the others were either asleep, or had gone away; there remained only Socrates, Aristophanes, and Agathon, who were drinking out of a large goblet which they passed round, and Socrates was discoursing to them. Aristodemus was only half awake, and he did not hear the beginning of the discourse; the chief thing which he remembered was Socrates compelling the other two to acknowledge that the genius of comedy was the same with that of tragedy, and that the true artist in tragedy was an artist in comedy also. To this they were constrained to assent, being drowsy, and not quite following the argument. And first of all Aristophanes dropped off, then, when the day was already dawning, Agathon. Socrates, having laid them to sleep, rose to depart; Aristodemus, as his manner was, following him. At the Lyceum he took a bath, and passed the day as usual. In the evening he retired to rest at his own home.

4chan is without a doubt the worst website in the history of the internet. I have never seen such an agglomeration of stupidity and wretchedness anywhere else, nor would have imagined that so much ugliness — mental, and no doubt also physical — could be possible in this world if I had never come across it. And they are all fully aware of this, which is why they prefer to remain anonymous, and almost immediately trash everything that they write, since they know it's rubbish. We are talking about individuals so weak and fearful that even the nicknames used by forum users feel too restrictive and oppressive to them. Individuals so slow and incoherent that they don't want others to be able to connect even as much as two of their posts together and hold them accountable for some measure of logic between them. This is the true bottom of the barrel of (sub)humanity. And that's why I keep an eye on it from time to time. You couldn't even meet such idiots in the street, since people in the street possess at least the minimum amount of strength required to leave their rooms and walk around. So if my site is the greatest site that exists and that will ever be made (and it is), 4chan is the lowest one, and will remain so for as long as it remains the internet's bastion for all those who are attracted by anonymity (which is to say for nobodies).

Hell I think it could spawn some meta-psychological discussion on how to balance yourself and strive for your perfect being going through reading certain material and eating healthy and channel your negativity into something positive.

And it's amazing to see.

If someone is watching you, the only time you'll realize it is when someone comes up to you to offer friendly advice on whatever exercise you were doing.
From what I've seen people rarely ever strike up conversations in gyms either, the most social interaction you'll probably have is saying hello to the person at the front desk or someone asking you if you're almost done with whatever you're doing (since it's probably next in their workout)

Just go there with a workout in mind and you'll do fine

We've all been there. Being shy, not knowing how the gym etiquette works, or how to do workouts properly without risking injury to yourself and others. The pressure is real.
But if you go often enough you'll learn all of these things. At worst chat the front desk person up. Tell them it's your first time at the gym(though they might give you a forum to fill out that'll basically ask you if you're a noob or not). Ask them to show you around for your first time.
They might ask you if you want a pt(personal trainer). This option is avaliable to you.

Some gyms allow you to go free the first day. They most likely will register you into their system if you do take that offer.

/lit/ I want to start reading as a thing I do possibly everyday but I don't know what to read as in how and where to start to turn this into a daily practice if possible, just like gym.

I'm a self-taught huehue and I learned everything I know about english by playing vidya. I know you hate genre fiction but I was reading Lovecraft's complete collection and it helps a great deal to learn new words with a dictionary by my side, plus I have a fetish for fictional stories about the occult and sinister (think Bloodborne, the game), so yeah, it was fun, but I have trouble sticking to it. I read a bit, then put it down and swear I'm gonna read again tomorrow just as I did today but I fail to stick to a routine.

As for literary stuff (is that how I refer to the kind of books you guys like?) I have a Plato book which I've read a bit and I liked it, The Republic, as well as some Nietzsche stuff and some other random stuff but that's it.

How did you start reading and how did it turn into something you did everyday? I want this but I have trouble sticking to it. Will I ever make it? What do I do?

I was at work and I didn't get a chance to post on here often. But what little time I spent here makes me sad to see it go away. I've been meaning to get back into my reading habits and start working out, though, so I'll have to lurk /fit/ for a while and be on /lit/ more.

>> No.29330

>>29083

honestly if you were never really into reading very heavily you need to explore what your potential interests might be. contrary to many elitist litfags you absolutely don't need to confine yourself to the classics or start with the greeks. ask your friends/family what their favorite books are or chat up a qt clerk at a bookstore and ask them for a recommendation. think about what subjects interest you and try and find books that scratch your itch. they could be sports/bodybuilding related -- you're obviously into fitness and lifting. it's really not hard to find the time either. I'd recommend starting out by reading in bed for about 30min-hr before falling asleep.

>> No.29382

>>29083

I also forgot. I'm guessing that your native language isn't english. read some of the seminal works of your country's authors.

from a fitizens perspective, you're not wrong. i've never been to /lit/, but i'd say it's 50/50 reading for immersive storytelling or enjoying the writer's style regardless of plot, and enjoying books by sam harris, carl jung, or even steven hawkings simply because it's intriguing and challenges my believe systems and is fascinating to read about intellectually beautiful subjects. that being said, you're aren't exactly wrong about lifting in itself. if you're doing it well you are being rigid and making goals and records, but when you reach the goal, it isn't unemotional, it's highly satisfying and wonderful. and between the workouts, in the gym, you can develop bonds with gym goers and enjoy their company and have good experiences, so it becomes a highly enjoyable process on the whole.
