I'm afraid to read poetry because of the fear that it'll turn me into a subvocalizing retard. Anyone have that experience? Did reading poetry have a detrimental effect on your reading speed and enjoyment of prose?

Read poetry, read difficult texts, read in multiple languages, learn to love ambiguity and multiple meanings, and appreciate reading slowly and leisurely meditating upon texts like a sophisticated Human Being rather than flipping pages like some mercantile ADHD-ridden productivity monkey.

Only pseuds fret over how fast they can read something or whether they subvocalize. Those things are insignificant compared to your actual understanding of and engagement with the works that you read.

don't worry most /lit/fags can't subvocalize, they need to read textbooks to understand how poetry works
