This mogs most modern self-improvement books by some margin. No wonder Moldbug called Carlyle 'Victorian Jesus'.

Moldbug states he is "a Carlylean more or less the way a Marxist is a Marxist" yet I'm struggling to see how he holds any of the same views at all except for a vaguely anti-democratic philosophy. It's like everything he says is in complete contradiction to Carlyle. Maybe Carlyle is a big influence, but 'Carlylean more or less the way a Marxist is a Marxist' just sounds like he wants to be exotic.

>just sounds like he wants to be exotic.
Of course, there is a whole market of retards available to him and why shouldn't he exploit it to solidify his immortality project?

Anyone who applies an identity to themselves and tries to become someone by fulfilling a chosen identity rather than becoming someone by actually acting out who they really are, being who they are without knowing it or trying to do it or talking about it, is just trying to be exotic. They aren’t anyone so they try to make themselves something false for fame and social approval and attention.
