I read CSW a couple weeks ago. It was okay, but nothing special. It was flat in that dull and lifeless way lots of contemporary Japanese literature is.

There's been some good Latin American writers popping up. From those I've read Luiselli's Faces places, Melchor's Hurricane season, Enríquez' The things we lost in the fire and Schweblin's Rescue distance are good. There's some other good ones I've read that haven't been translated yet and some that are apparently good that I haven't gotten to.

I bounced between a few retail jobs over about 10 years too. From warehouse grunt, sales, all the way to management. It was soul crushing and I thought of suicide often and attempted once. But thankfully I made it out and now I work in a still soul crushing job but I'm not insulted on a daily basis and work a set schedule.

I just became a dad in September and I'll warn you about the following fellow retail bro:
Overtiredness - Practice sleep scheduling early
Cluster feeding - No one told us about this, but it can be rough if you're not prepared
Also, you can be rougher and less careful than you think when picking them up.

The Pale King obviously
Psychedelics, Alienation, & Change was also pretty good (Haven't read any other of Lin's yet)

This is pretty funny, though I went for the audiobook instead of the written version.

Haven't read a lot of books from the past 11 years, any reccs based on these 3 are welcome.

What the fuck is so funny about my list? We have motherfuckers on this board talking about worthless drivel like Haruki Murakami more than Vollmann or McElroy and it is pitiful. This whole board has taste that is way too similar to Reddit and "Booktube" (for Christ's sake), I'm at least attempting to tell people about worthwhile literature.

I'm not the one who posted lmfao but it's just the usual /lit/ suspects. What people miss is that these authors are genuinely the canon and not the slop that gets awards now. I think the laughter might even be hyper cynical that what is cliche on 4chan is actually the highest literary art for our time - which is quite sad.
