I just finished Ressurection. I did't care much about any character other than Nehliudov but the depiction of Russian peasantry and their jail system was absolutely stellar. Unfortunately I found the book to be prety boring for the most part and it reeks of communist undertones. Are his other books better?

Anons, when you buy books, do you look at the cover/type/translations/pages/ect? It drives me nuts to see all kind of different covers and types.

>> No.19508082

Always check the translation
If “checking” the cover counts as looking at it I guess I do that, but only so I can look at the meat inside. I usually prefer a nice cover to a bad one but it’s not a dealbreaker
Besides that I just make sure it’s not an abridged version and I’m a-ok

Since you just read it, it might be worthwhile to read Kevin Birmingham's book on Dostoevsky's life and how he came to write C&P. It literally just came out.

As for the next Dostoevsky book, I really recommend Humiliated and Insulated. It's not his best-known, but the book really tugs at you and it's a real page-turner.
