Loved the game except for the fourth act (too long) and the expansion (just bad)

Book of the New Sun is what you are looking for (through a Christian lens, but I am not a Christian and it is still my favorite scifi)
Asimov's first Foundation novel is also a bit like that
If you can stomach a webnovel, Worm gets around to being sort of about that (though more as a counterpoint to optimistic acceptance, but it's still interesting if you're interested. Also it's barely worth reading so feel free to skim)
There's not much like OW out there though
