The failing of DFW was not that his work was overwrought and unnecessarily long, but that he had failed to provide what was promised in his offering to the reader- an Infinite Jest.

There are many that are justifiable, what I find unjustifiable is that a book can have 10-30 shitty opening pages and then people expect you to read the rest. If you don’t like what a books about by 15 pages in there’s over a 99% chance you won’t like the rest.
