1984 or Brave New World

>> No.1946356

1984, duh !

>> No.1946359

I saw some kid buying 1984 today and I wanted to punch him in the kidneys.

Is it even a contest?

Does someone have the recommendation tier chart with these two on it?

Why?
Did he grab the copy you wanted?

>> No.1946366

from a literary point of view, brave new world, it's written more cleverly.
from a personal point of view, 1984, it just has more food for thought, even without the dystopia.

Kagome got extremly hot all of a sudden.

Also, 1984.
Although the genetic aspect of Brave New World was interesting, it was unrealistic, and too unexplained.
1984 kept it realistic and simple

Chillax man, he's probably just catching up on the required summer reading for a lit class.

Nah he looked like some kind of kid who wanted it to look cool and cultured in front of his friends.
He was wearing horn-rimmed glasses.

I already have a copy and it has a cover I rather like. I woyuldn't buy another copy of it.

I'm tempted to buy a third Clockwork Orange however because I saw a new edition I like.

Understandable rage.

>>1946355
Brave new world was interesting, but it wasnt realistic.
Why decide on stupid mini people to do hard labor, and mutated middle classes, I never understood. Its interesting, but a whole lot of why.

I always could imagine a 1984 world.

>unrealistic
I see the general populace held back simply by the abundance of pleasures available in the world which pacifies them.

I don't see complete censorship of anything.

1984

Although I wasnt forced to read it in high school, so since I read it on my own I think I enjoyed it more.

What about "Darkness at Noon" from Arthur Koestler?
It would be a good complement

Progressively censorship is getting worse and worse.
Take for example the new cyberbully laws. Net neutrality has always been fighting a losing battle.

Are you speaking of people tracked down for being hackers or sending bomb threats?

Cenorship is losing. Television is far more liberal now, still not completely free, but neither as strict as it once was.

I would say it's in a different league from the other two, simply because it's pretty much historical and not so much speculative. 1984 aren't that similar but they have more in common than other "dystopian" works, fahrenheit 451 would probably complement 1984 better than BNW though. maybe we and darkness at noon.

Television is mindless drivel. But you're right, more themes and ideas are becoming acceptable on talkshows, feature films and the like.
I honestly think no one will ever be able to control the Internet. Not even the government. If I'm wrong, please tell me so now and direct me to sources where I can learn more because I'd want to do something about it.

Brave New World.

Brave New World. That's just what I prefer of course, I can't say one is better than the other. 1984 was a chore to read, but I really enjoyed BNW. 4/5, would read again.

That picture. My childhood. Oh god. That was my favorite anime when I was a weeaboo.

When I was 15 I bought Brave New World because it looked like a good read, and I only talked about literature with a few of my good friends who also read then.

Would that make me an assfaggot?

I dunno I guess I was a bit like that but I didn't really talk to anyone about literature so I was nothing like that (because I didn't talk to anyone)

I blasted through both books relatively quickly (probably because they weren't required reading) and I have to say, 1984 is my personal choice, but BNW had better prose. Dat Shakespeare-quoting savage.

BROFIST. First anime I ever saw on Adult Swim. Looking back I don't know why the fuck I ever liked it.
