I've decided I need to start reading non-fiction and I intend to break up some of my regular reading too.
You guys always talk about Slavoj Žižek and I'd seen him on the Culture Show.

Is this a good place to start with Žižek?

The middle-aged scholarly type in Blackwells muttered "Fantastic" to himself when I went to pay.

It really depends on what area of his thought you're interested in. He's quite the diverse one.

I'm not going to lie I know nothing about the guy or his thoughts, it just seemed like the more interesting of the two books by him on offer.

A good place to start with Zizek would be his latest big release, Living in the End Times, which is a bit more forgiving than some of his earlier stuff, couched in complex, abstruse psychoanalytical theorizing. Ideally, by the time, you're used to him, you'll be reading stuff like the Ticklish Subject, the Parallax View and the Sublime Object of Ideology.

Best of all, get his Pervert's Guide to Cinema, (it's on youtube), for an awesome introduction to the intricacies of his thought.

Thanks Caracalla, I'll look up the YouTube tonight and I'll phone and see if they have the other book if not I'll order it online and put off my non-fiction reading until then.

Reading pic related currently,

Love the fact that it's three small dialectics within one large.

The jury's out on whether I'll buy his citation of the Baddiouan event as something that could affect a lasting political transubstantiation (on Hegelian lines)
