Is there a way to help with this or do I just give up trying to be a reader

Give up loser

i'm the opposite. takes me usually 100 pages before i can really get into a book, after that there's no way i would stop reading it.

force yourself to finish the previous one before reading a new book

Read shorter books. No joke. Stick to 200 page or less for now. Your reading speed will increase and keep up with your interest capacity.

This. Read short stories too.

Pleb. Muster the strength of will to see it through, otherwise don't bother. Or like others said, read short kiddie books, which is just sad.

Unironically the only non-meme answer here.

On some subconscious level, you are still reading books that don't interest you.
They may interest you on some superficial level, but basically you are only reading them because you feel you are "supposed" to read them.
I used to be like this too, but once you stop giving a shit about obsessively reading every book in the "canon" and just reading what you enjoy, then reading becomes more fun.
