Despite being very popular, highly acclaimed and fairly accessible, I don’t see may Poe threads. What are some thoughts or opinions? I’ve always thought it strange how he was more popular in France during the early 20th century than USA

For me it's the Cask of Amontillado, The Masque of Red Death, Tell-tale Heart and Murders in Rue Morgue

He's overrated but still significant. Much of his work is second-rate, so you're left with half a dozen short stories and poems. Still, a comfy and interesting writer.

There are two ways to approach Poe. In the first, you can be like a typical culturalcastrated amerimutt. In the second, you can join the aristocratic cultural tradition of the Europeans. Just think of how Melville was treated was treated by his own countrymen compared to the Europeans. The answer is easy.

He was a modern era Neanderthal, and that's a good thing.
