read field manuals or technical manuals from a military. it's just information, no fluff. if you truly want skills, and not entertainment, read them. or just pick up a hammer and try and fail. there used to be a time when parents would encourage children to not be afraid of failing. looks like parenting is becoming worse.

I've failed numerous times in this life exploring. Different cities/countries, different careers, different philosophies, all while not having a family to help me out. I see now what you were saying. If that's how you normally talk and people understand you, where you are from, or here, most certainly don't take anything that I said previously as something you need to change. In the same vein, most wouldn't use horticulture in that way, where I from anyway, and I'm a horticulturalist. It would be gardening or some other verb of similar sort. Horticulture would be, here, the study of gardening, put the implementation of it, would be gardening. The profession can be either horticulturalist or gardener, or perhaps some other regional term.

Because skill based literature is always full of faggot LARPers that want to read 200 pages about how to bury fucking seeds in the dirt or else anarchist /k/ preppers who could get everything they need off armypubs. There's never any discussion or recommendations for texts that might actually be useful like general handyman work, vehicle maintenance, shop skills, clothing repair/tailoring, cottage industry, cookbooks or drink recipes, etc etc etc.

SS is good but it should come with several caveats up front; Rippetoe is ONLY concerned with a strength training routine that will induce the largest number of on-paper gains as possible during the 'noob gainz' phase. Treating SS like the Bible instead of as a general starting point and reference text is a fast way to get very little out of what most men actually lift and exercise for: aesthetics, confidence, and as an enjoyable productive time waster. If you follow SS to the letter you will not look good and will not be having fun in the gym, so its quite likely your confidence will not increase.
In addition to that last point, Rippetoe confusingly ignores arm workouts since SS is all about compound lifts and no isolation exercises.
