Nothing is "best" for a person: he just chooses what he likes best. This is what i meant.

You could ask the same thing about favourite books. And both are legitimate questions. As for me, I just pick some things I really like. I could pick something else if I felt like it - Tolstoy's Anna Karenina, Dürer (especially his Apocalypse woodcuts)... these "favourites" should always be treated with some distance, IMO.

Beckett's Trilogy or Three Novels or however you want to call it.
I have no favorite painting, but here's one I like and is in tone with Beckett for obvious reasons.

I really like this one. The motive is from my Heimat. I like the quiet symbolism and the rich story that lies underneath. The soldier in the shadow which misses an arm also appears in another painting, where he comes home from the war, only to find his fiancee being wed to another man. It's probably her being buried, next to the child grave.

Anyway, my favourite book is Il Gattopardo by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa.

Can't pick out just one. This as much as anything, I guess. I like most Rembrandts. I love Leonardo's Virgin of the Rocks and Mona Lisa.

Same with the book. Thus Spake Zarathustra, maybe. Or Dylan Thomas Collected Poems 1934-52. But there are many others.
