This book is pretty cool. What PKD should I read next

Hey literally just finished this book today. What did you think anon? I have a short anthology I got rom the library, reading do androids dream of electric sheep, then Ubik next.

I'd go
Ubik
A Scanner Darkly
Dr. Bloodmoney (postapocalyptic Kino)

And if you really like PKD, a good entry into his early pulp:
The World Jones Made

I recommend you save Valis either for last, or at least until you've read the majority of his stuff.
Same with Radio Free Albermuth, which was like a first draft of Valis where his FRIEND was the "schizophrenic" receiving downloads from the universe, rather than himself.

Not at all what I expected. Much more breezy and pulpy which made the big, crazy ideas hit even harder. Loved it.

do you have any similar authors you really like? thanks for the reading list

Only read "Do androids dream of electric sheep?" It was good, didn't know it was also a popular movie. The later disappointed me tho, everybody seemed to agree it was better than the book, which is very debatable to me

both are very good and hold up well in their own right, but blade runner is only loosely based on the novel.

That's true, I could have read/watched them in, let's say, one year from each other and wouldn't have thought they were that related, just a clear influence.
Was kind of drunk while watching the movie, that probably fucked up my vision of it

Is the Electric Dreams tv show any good?

wat... literally just finished it two day ago. liked it a lot, from the moment Bulero took chew-z it was wildly fun, a bit slow to ramp up though.
couldnt stop thinking about how Palmer Eldritch reminded me of someone like Elon Musk.

do you guys think they really saw the future? was that just a hallucination? was Eldritch still in control at the end?

I love how pkd leaves it up to the imagination. Was mayerson fucked the moment he ate chew z on mars, and the rest of the book is him spazzing the f out along with everyone else who ate chew z, or if he took the epilepsy drug Leo told him to take before he ingested chew z stop chew z manufacturing?

There are a lot of devils in this book anyhow, Leo isn't much better for manufacturing the can-d drug anyways, roni is power hungry, and richard hnatt and emily are chasing money to evolve.

The catholic influence of the "stigmata" of palmer eldritch was a great and amusing touch. When you invite the holy spirit (chew z) it takes form as a stigmata (edritches arm, eyes and jaw), except in this case you're marked as a drug addict.

do you mean the pre cogs (mayerson and roni) who predicted what Leo would kill eldritch? I think that happened, but that eldritch didn't care because once chew z was manufactured and consumed he became more of an ethereal, "holy spirit" type of being. Kind of reminds me of this Hindu figure called Narada, a mahatma who can travel through space and time.

I just finish Ubik yesterday. I loved it! Going to start Flow My Tears later today.

>Why Valis after Other stuff
Because It's sort of autiobiographical and being well acquainted with his body of work gives the necessary context to appreciate what otherwise might just seem like disorganized craziness.

Wow an actually good answer on this board

>> No.19420587

Need to reread this at some point, because I don't think I could coherently explain what the fuck happens.
>Take drug to experience idealistic life with dolls
>Start seeing super billionaire everywhere?
>Start turning into super billionaire, along with everyone else??
>Phase in and out of realities???
>See future where billionaire defeated, also aliens????
>Billionaire is probably got eaten and replaced by eldritch alien?????

What are his best short stories/collections?
Read man in the high castle and didn't care for it but his short stories that I've read were great

>electric ant
>second variety
Etc.
