I’ve spent so long reading the Greeks I find it genuinely strange when I spend time with people irl or go on boards like /tv/ and everyone is attracted to women

If you read the Greeks and not just one tiny corner of the Greeks you get a very strong sense of a very strong heterosexual impulse.

Part of the explicit "keep away from women!" dogma in old philosophy is precisely because men back then were not the pathetic geldings they are today, so if there was a woman around, they would be thinking of one thing only, i.e. having sex with her. Impossible to concentrate on prime numbers or epistemology or the perfect city-state in that condition.

my observation is that pretty much everyone with a thing for the greeks has at the very least bisexual curiosity.

you couldnt be further from the proof. Just consider spartans abysmal birth rate over centuries and their very advanced homosexual pedophilic practices

Of course the Spartans had a terrible birth rate, they were getting murdered much faster than they could reproduce later on and that caused them to rely upon mercenaries to keep their military going. Any civilization would crumble under that degree of severe attrition. They also left babies too weak or too incapable of surviving their birth rituals to die. Spartan women also married in young adulthood rather than marrying in their early teenage years like the Athenians did.

You don't believe that now, I'm sure. Why would it have been true earlier?

the spartans already had terrible birth rate at the peak of their power and were renowned for their homosexuality, their population was always low and they relied on the helots to exert their military power.
You have to be stupid to not realize that a society as fixated on cocks as the greeks, wasnt particularly homo.

Such similarities and apparent borrowings or adaptations suggest that early Greek thought was as influenced in specific and limited ways by that of Egypt as it was by that of Phoenicia, Sumeria, and Babylonia. Recently, however, a much stronger case has been set forth. In 1987, Martin Bernal, an eminent expert on Chinese, published a most provocative book entitled Black Athena: The Afroasiatic Roots of Classical Civilization. The first part of this projected four-volume study is subtitled “The Fabrication of Ancient Greece, 1785–1985.” Using evidence from philology, ancient history, and many other fields, Bernal advanced the thesis that much of what we call “classical civilization” came from Egypt and Phoenician and Hebraic sources. He further claimed that it was only when European racism came into full flower from the late eighteenth century onward that scholars tried to depict ancient Greece as a completely autonomous world that provided the complete foundations for European civilization. Such racism, according to Bernal, deliberately demeaned the Middle East and Africa as undeveloped, low-level areas with practically no influence on the “glory that was Greece, the grandeur that was Rome,” or on the subsequent civilizations in Europe.

It seems that the Greeks also invented blacked porn.

From about 1975, however, Bernal underwent a radical shift in his interests. In his own words:
>The scattered Jewish components of my ancestry would have given nightmares to assessors trying to apply the Nuremberg Laws, and although pleased to have these fractions, I had not previously given much thought to them or to Jewish culture. It was at this stage that I became intrigued—in a Romantic way—in this part of my 'roots'. I started looking into ancient Jewish history and— being on the periphery myself—into the relationship between the Israelites and the surrounding peoples, particularly the Canaanites and the Phoenicians. I had always known that the latter spoke Semitic languages, but it came as quite a shock to learn that Hebrew and Phoenician were mutually intelligible and that serious linguists treated both as a dialect of a single Canaanite language.
>During this time, I was beginning to study Hebrew and I found what seemed to me a number of striking similarities between it and Greek ...

This. I'm currently into Plato, Charmides, and it's pretty obvious that greeks were obsessed with young men. They even brawled in order to sit beside charmides.
