So my teacher is making me read this book for this semester and i have about ten days to finish it all. I'm on page 50, it has over 300 pages. Should i kill myself?

25-30 pages a day isn't that bad desu. Read for an hour or so every morning, and you'll finish in no time.

I forgot to mention that i hate reading it and even if i'm just on page 50 i already know it's gonna go full blown preachy as i keep reading it. The characters are also unlikable, the windup girl (emiko) especially.

Do you not know how to bullshit? I wrote a paper on Don Quixote in high school and I had only read maybe 40% of Part 1. As if anyone else is going to give a fuck about what you say, let alone contradict you.

What exactly is so bad about it? Genre fiction, sure, but easily one of the least offensive things you could have been assigned, by the looks of it.

bro, 250 pages in a week is easy as fuck
do as >>19413633 says and just read for one hour every morning

Are you serious?

You can read a book like that in one evening with absolutely no problem.

People these days seem to have no idea what reading actually means.

I know there's a lot of posturing on /lit/, with idiots trying to show off. "Oh, you don't read Homer in the original? ngmi" and all that nonsense. But no-one's asking this of you.

Just grow up, focus for a couple of hours and read the damn thing.

I remembered reading that as a young 20 something and thinking the prose was gorgeous. Then a reread it a couple years later and wondered what the fuck was going on in my head.

It's fine and the worldbuilding has some neat ideas. It is kind of preachy.
