I hate reading pdf books, is there any program I can use to make the text better? My eyes hurt after reading half an hour of a pdf.

Are you reading with a light on? Are you too close to the screen/too far away? Are you not wearing reading glasses? Do you take small breaks when reading? Is the text large enough for you without straining?

Re-working any of these should work. Light on, medium distance, any needed reading glasses, take a break every chapter or so.

calibre for linux systems will convert pdf into most popular formats epub mobi etc. although i dont think this really your problem is pdfs as much as it is the screen you are reading it on

if you want a program that is better than adobe try foxit on windows systems it loads tons faster than adobes crappy bloatware.
