Anyone have any recommendations on iPhone apps for writers? Mainly to take notes on the go, but also for brainstorming and inspiration?

>> No.1940190

iThoughts is rather good for brainstorming

Slingo.

I personally don't use Apple products, but my friends who are writers speak well of Scrivener.

I know I'm going to get a barrage of "hurr durr luddite" comments for saying but...

an iphone app will not help you with writing and i find this kind of laughable

I can understand an app for taking notes, but brainstorming and inspiration? No good writing will ever come of this.

I use "My Writing Nook" (or maybe it's My Writing SPOT), and it's excellent. Links up with an online site you log in through your google account for when you're at your desk.

I ride public transit a lot, and if I'm not reading then I'm writing. I just couldn't find time to write at home or any other time, so I actually get some rough stuff done and then clean it up later. Damn, at least it's something. Even if I'm struggling out a few paragraphs with my thumb on a tiny keyboard, at least it's something. Then when I get to work I sync it to the online version and copy/paste another copy into my local drive.

inb4 you tell me to get a notebook and pen

I agree partially. An iPad won't make you a brilliant writer beyond using it to read and write on which paper and a library are equivalent too.

However, some apps can help with note-taking or compiling notes or help make the editing process easier.

It won't make your ideas or stories any better, but it can make the process of planning, writing and editing more convenient.

I'm kind of in the same boat as OP and this guy >>1940677 in that I'm on the bus to and from campus/work a lot, and I need something portable to write on, except I can't fucking stand touch screen keyboards. Wat do?

Probably won't help but I'll post anyway

These are some apps I use, I tend to write a lot using my iPad.

I use iThoughts in order to create mind-maps which helps me link seemingly unconnected dialogue, events and characters in the planning stage.

Dragon Dictation is a good app for recording what you say and it types it out. It's not perfect but makes you speak clearer and think about what you say so it helps there.

Noterize is good for getting existing documents and annotating them for future use.

Finally, if you get stuck for ideas try the Guardian Eyewitness app which has powerful imagery which might generate something.

An iPhone app will help you if you just want to feel like a writer though.

You can jot down thoughts real quick and act as if you will expand on them later.

Even story outlines, etc...

You know the drill.

Don't all iPhones come with 'Notes'? I don't understand why you would need any more than that.

If you were really a writer, you would probably be writing on your arms right now.

I've lost way too many notes using apples notes, I've since switched to Evernote which syncs to a client on my computer, perfect.
