Wow, /lit/ criticizing children's literature for average writing? Truly, we are champions of the written word.

sailor moon is actually twice as good as this bullshit.

the humor here stems from the less commonly noticed "nerd-pretending-to-be-a-norp-pretending-to-be-a-nerd" situation

nobody thinks of pokemon when they hear the word anime, not even the garden variety norp. this is what a weeaboo thinks a normal person thinks.

As a videogame player, I think the the subject matter is hilariously bad.

As a reader and critic,I think Mancusi is writing precisely and effectively to her audience.

You can knock her for the former, but not for the latter.

The only redemption for this book would be a sequel written like a book for real people, set ten years in the future, with her looking back and feeling so ashamed for leading such a horrid, vapid life.

Which would be more enriching for a 14 year old female, reading "Gamer Girl" or reading a Dragonlance novel?

Oh god.

Gamer Girl, now a washed up drug addict living in Japanese city slums, recalls the horrible misfortunes in her life leading up to now, including the murder of her boyfriend, her grandmother hiding cocaine in the unicorns thus leading Maddy to live life in an orphanage where she is raped by a Japanese boy, thus traumatizing her for life all while reminding her she still has a dream to make it big in manga.

Barely scrapping up the money to venture to the Japan, she ends up penniless and without a home so she turns to prostitution, which incites a drug addiction to help cope.

The novel ends with her in the arms of an American man with blue eyes who finds her dying in the street.
