What are some books that feature a man's sexual awakening and loss of innocence, preferably with macabre overtones? I've already read The Confusions of Young Törless.

I frequently experience both homoerotic and heteroerotic lust, but I'm stuck with the shame of being a 19 year old male virgin due to performance anxiety, if that matters.

Homoerotic lust is highly abnormal so of course you would read grotesque fringe smut like that

It'll be a pleasant browsing experience when you realize much of /lit/ is sexually confused 19 year old boys, and one butterfly tranny, who can't stop posting in threads which don't concern her at all.

Look for the 20%, Pareto's law will make this board worthwhile.

you'll get some of that from confessions of a mask, especially the "man's sexual awakening and loss of innocence" part.

I also think Kawabata’s ‘The Lake’ and Mishima’s other fiction, like some of his short stories and the novel Temple of the golden pavilion etc. are good recommendations

Nice list. I only recognise about half of the titles but their summaries all seem interesting. How did you come to know about them?

Thanks. It’s hard to say. I believe I came across Ernesto and Agostino through browsing the NYRB catalogue. Sébastien Roch might have been the Goodreads algorithm working its magic. Not sure where I found out about The Young Desire It — might’ve been from /lit/, which makes it weird since it’s one of the few books I’ve ever read that’s set in my home city. That book is quite special to me. And it’s not one I listed but I also discovered Törleß via /lit/.

Just thought of some other recommendations. ‘The Everlasting Secret Family’ by Frank Moorhouse and ‘Lovesong’ by Elizabeth Jolley. These two books were completely random (but salutary) discoveries.

This doesn’t quite fit the subdued dark Bildungsroman vibe of the rest of the thread, but Portnoy’s Complaint obviously is about sexual awakening in a Jewish home.

This is in reality just the predatory fantasy of a tiny handful of terminally online deviants (discord trannies et al)

The Maimed by Hermann Ungar maybe.
Though the main character is repulsed by sex and is probably a closeted gay. Maybe not what you're looking for, but it's a good read nonetheless.
