>For me Christianity has not yet arrived, and I am like the early Christians, awaiting Christ's return.
What did he mean by this?

Shut the fuck up, obsessive Wagnerite.

I think the more interesting and encapsulating Wagner quote on religion is "I do not believe in God but in godliness"

Loyal to Christ and Wagner knows Christ will return

I wouldn‘t worry about it. His descent into Christianity is a pretty clear mark of his mind and body failing him in his last years.

Hey Wagnerfag, how should I watch Der Nibelungen?

Is there a good version on youtube or a torrent I can get that has english subtitles? Should I watch one whole opera at a time or just watch for an hour or two like a tv miniseries?

Only good filmed version is the Jahrhundertring, but it wont make any sense without knowing the original setting/stage directions because it's reggietheatre.

Watching a whole opera will be 'the next thing to suicide' for the first time, unless you're a mature Wagnerian. So break it into acts over three nights (excluding Rheingold and Hollander which are one act).

The 1990 Levine Met production is the best and most traditional on film.

It claims to be traditional but the outfits and sets are tacky.

I agree. Still, it's the best there is.

It can't really compare with the conducting, singing or visual direction of the Boulez Ring, even if it isn't traditional.

It's a tragedy none of Wieland's productions were filmed with the same standards.

It means he declines the Catholic or Protestant interpretation and tradition and simply accepts Christ at face value in a simple way awaits his imminent arrival and doesn’t feel the need for the ceremony or other stuff of the current religious institutions.

He’s just a dude who believes in Christ simple as

Wrong, it was just a joke.

I watched the centenary ring over the course of a week - one full part every other evening. It was my first time watching anything Wagner and I can only recommend it.

Donald McIntyre and Gwyneth Jones' Wotan and Brünnhilde were a fantastic match. I challenge anyone to find a production of the Ring Cycle in which Wotan is able to physically carry his Brünnhilde around on stage.

McIntyre was great, Jones sucked.

Being physically fit for the role of Wotan's daughter is an achievement in itself for a soprano. Imagine McIntyre trying to lift Birgit Nilsson.

Kirsten Flagstad was perfect.
