19363169 No.19363169 [Reply] [Original]

I did my daily readings in candlelight yesterday and I would recommend it very much. Blocking out all electrical made me focus more and it was overall very comfy. As anyone tried this themselves?

I read in the daylight, on benches around campus, quite often. It's nice. Nothing that burns allowed in the space I currently live in, so no candles. Tea gives a nice smell, though, when I have it.

If its dark outside I won't have a ceiling light on, just a lamp.
If it's bright all around indoors during the evening/nighttime I find it very annoying.

those who pulled all-nighters, finishing deadlines, tended to ruin their eyes. candles were expensive, case closed.
i'm not claiming everybody went totally blind anyway.

How many or what kind of candles are actually good? I tried reading a book using a candle with three small flames last time there was a blackout, but it was so uncomfortable to see that I gave up.

Eyesight worsens with age, and modern people who work a lot with monitors also get degenerative problems with their eyes. There's nothing particularly bad about candles, not to mention that people used to go to bed early after sundown, and wake up with the first lights of the morning. A painter would paint during daylight hours and quit, or only sketch in monochrome, after the best light of day went out.

>not to mention that people used to go to bed early after sundown, and wake up with the first lights of the morning.
thats why i pointed out special case of night-reading/writing.
candlelight VILL stress eyes, monitors suffer from other limitations which CAN stress eyes when one is careless about attitude and geometry. modern ppl lack geometry desu.
