Philosophy and literature is cool because I'm applying the skills that I've learned from reading to other things. I think it's worthwhile and I enjoy thinking about the world and how it relates back to myself. However I agree, fitness of mind and body is a priority and mental masturbation that neglects these two things (much like the white ant analogy from Sun and Steel) are a waste of time.
