i've read some of Asimov Magazine's free excerpts and good lord... they're TERRIBLE! the main character is always some super smart, austistic/quirky mary-sue, and all men are retards who need to be rescued. will have to make my main character female just to have a chance at getting published it seems

i want to publish a few short stories just so i'm not a total nobody when i pitch my book to a big publisher... are magazines even good for that anymore?
