mental illness is trendy, some think it gives them depth., and everyone is self diagnosing something so they can stand out.

A lot of political prisoners are getting diagnosed as an act of gaslighting and persecution, so it's only natural that it's becoming satirized. Also Big Pharma made all the pills and needs customers.

Underrated

>I have anxiety, because it's quirky to exaggerate what other people think of you and definitely not something that happens to everyone else!:^)

It's a fad; no online community is immune, especially the faggots on 4chan. Just in case you think you're special for saying "nigger" on an anime board anon -- you aren't. You're a redditor/Tumblrina in a different skirt marching to the same drum beat

I think Internet has desensitized people, they now need stronger fixes for their "morbid curiousity", from this has emerged a mainstream demand for surreal/horror content including stuff dealing with psyche/trauma (check out what any millenial/zoomer is watching on YouTube)
Also, trolling is a mental illness

i'd start with the eknath easwaran's dhammapada. super easy to read and the intro is a better written and condensed version of siddhartha.

or just read siddhartha if you want something even more readable since it's a novel.

In general I agree with you, but then I ask, where does society go from here in terms of dealing with those in society who do suffer lifelong mental pathologies?

I mean, it's clear that this attitude of radical openness and sincerity (*cough*) about one's mental state is unsustainable - carried out to its logical extreme everyone simply claims whichever mental illness that they evaluate to provide the greatest ratio of positive to negative social clout to themselves.

But at the same time Japan already exists as a case study of what total denial of mental illness does to a modern society - and I don't think we want to go down that path.

Other than banning women from social media, what is to be done?
