After you've read this did you dump all your friends, made new ones, moved on and changed your lifestyle?

Best decision ever.

>Did you dump your friends.
How can one dump what does not exist?

>> No.1931846

No, but then again my friends aren't a bunch of heroin addicts and psychos, so it didn't really seem necessary.

I think the novel emphasize the bad living enviroment in general besides the drug use and psychotic behaviour. So either way you need to get out of there.

>> No.1931856

So what you're saying is that you hung out with deadbeat junkies who had long and strange conversations about pop culture but decided to get your shit together and become an upwardly mobile yuppie, or the opposite?

>> No.1931860

also Trainspotting general.

Can you recommend me other books like these besides the works of Irvine Welsh's of course?

>with deadbeat junkies who had long and strange conversations about pop culture

Most of them were exactly like that. Also being a "Yuppie" is not the proper word. More like taking the control over and going straight through the life.

Also I think that novel has the best and the most realistic protagonist i.e In hard situations I just ask myself "What would Mark Renton do?" and it usually works out.

Suicide.

I thought the book was just basically a long explanation as to why Glasgow is a shithole.

Bret Easton Ellis is the Yuppie equivelant of Irvine Welsh. Complete with only having one worht while read (Rules of Attraction, don't be fooled by people who actually like American Psycho).

The only thing Scotland has going for it is all the awesome mountains, hills and locks, but TBH, that's quite a lot. I'm half Scottish myself. I avoid ANY big city, since most of them suck.
