The dialogue is text, for sure, but the story is experienced as a moving image, both while playing in game and during cut-scenes.

When you get to the core of what a video game is, it doesn't need words. Think of Tetris. A story can be literature, but a video game may not always have a story.

It really invoked Russian lit, intertextually and thematically. You could tell that Chekhov and Dostoevsky and Brecht were big influences.

Does it reach the heights of literature? Not my place to say, but it's probably the best game/narrative integration I've ever seen done, and not because the gameplay is good.

/v/irgin here. As far as Final Fantasy goes its just terrible. Older ones were good, 3 is probably the best one created.

Mother series has always been good but often foreshadowed by easier less complex mind numbing games. Mario, and Zelda. Not much story just hey go do this and there you go.

I've never really understood why Zelda is held in such high regard in the gaming community. It's hardly deep at all. The princess is kidnapped. Go save her.

The only game I've ever had true emotions about are, Metal Gear Solid. Probably some of the best written gaming dialogue out there. Seriously check out 3.
