I listened to Samuel Bak speak at my older sister’s undergrad commencement when I was 17. He spoke of his experiences surviving as a child living in the Ghetto of Vilna during the Second World War, and how afterwards he struggled to communicate those experiences to those who had not lived it. The only way to share this he said, was to create an entirely new planet, through which his paintings are a window. To do this was necessary because he felt that words would not suffice. His world and his art, that very idea has filled me with wonder and inspired my own creative pursuits ever since. It’s impossible to choose a favorite.

Holy shit, another excellent choice. Interestingly, I believe this artist made another painting with the roles reversed (lamb standing over dead mother), but it received much less popularity. Probably has to do with only an adult truly understanding the feelings of loss. A child's perspective is numbed by innocence

imagine getting three days warning that rocks are coming. The roads are blocked so you and your dad work for 40 hours straight to encase the cockpit in a fiberglass shell, applying layers as fast as possible to make it thick enough. One tiny window faces backwards next to your homemade snorkel. When the rock comes, you're in open sea to survive the initial shockwave, it's like death. All people aboard can do is gag as you're driven and spun underwater. You wrench the throttle and hold on, immediately braced for the following wave. The boat pops out of the water and is airborn, liberating more bile in the sealed compartment, before slamming onto the surface. Somehow, you can feel the engine still running. If you were outside, you would see the wonderful sight (much like your painting) of anon's boat headed into the world destroying wave. Inside, the sailor thinks only of his fragile shell, and of piercing through the wave to safe water. This wave won't subside for a year. Sea level rise will be over 20 feet for a month. There's no telling where you might resurface.

Hylas and the Nymphs is an 1896 oil painting by John William Waterhouse. The painting was acquired by the Manchester Art Gallery in 1896 and has been on display ever since. In 2018 the gallery director, a SJW named Clare Gannaway, censored this painting by removing it from the museum for some bullshit reason loosely connected to #MeToo.

Women should not be put in charge of preserving art or culture. They are incompetent.
