Do you listen to music while reading?

>> No.19283530

Only if the alternative is to listen to distracting noise (for example: the neighbors blasting mumble rap). I generally listen to one piece of classical music over and over

>> No.19283546

I'll put on some dungeon synth when reading a fantasy book.

>> No.19283551

Usually pre-2010 film soundtracks as well as Wagner, currently Basil Poledouris. Jeremy Soule is also soothing.

If you can't do anything about the noise do something about your concentration. People can read under any circumstances with enough practice.

Background music is possibly the worst thing that has been accepted as normal in modern times. You are supposed to listen to the music with your full attention or not have any music. Silence always beats music, I don't know how people just put shit in the background. I find that unbearable. If I were in the middle ages I would pay someone to shiv the minstrel in the village square.

No, why will I contaminate my reading with the emotions a music is trying to convey? What's the point then? Read a summary of something.

You seem to be assuming that people only listen to each piece of music once. I have plenty of albums that I'm already very familiar with from close listening, why can't I use these as background music?

No but I nearly always put on ambience unless I'm reading outside. If it rains and I can hear it from my window, I get in the mood to read too.

Try Varg's music. He's got one good 17 minute song from an earlier album, and his newest album was made for a game he designed.

I do need music to concentrate on work. Most of it mostly repetitive music I never listen in my free time.
