>Lyrics are inherently not /lit, not even Bob Dylan.
I agree that these threads are usually ungreat because a) most popular music lyrics aren't very good and b) people just sperg what they like listening to.

However, popular musicians do occasionally produce phrases or lines with literary merit. (The problem is that music is so much more powerful than language, it's very hard to judge the language in isolation. When you see any song lyric, if you know the song, you immediately hear the music, and that dictates 99% of how you feel.)

Anyway, here are ten snippets I think have something about them, be it clever wordsmithery, a poignant or evocative image, or whatever:

---

ghost of 'lectricity howls in the bones of her face
[Bob Dylan]

---

Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me
[Queen]

---

I'll ignore your cheap aroma
and your Little Bo-Peep diploma
I'll just put you in a coma with some dirty love
[Frank Zappa]

---

if it all fell to pieces tomorrow
would you still be mine
[Eagles]

---

the movement you need is on your shoulder
[Beatles]

---

now there's a look in your eye
like black holes in the sky
[Pink Floyd]

---

make me grow braniac fingers
but with more hair!
make me kiss your turquoise jewelry!
emboss me!
rub the hot front part of my head
with rigid unguents!
give me bas-relief!
[Captain Beefheart]

---

cops in cars, the topless bars
never saw a woman
so alone
so alone
[The Doors]

---

your hands are cold but your lips are warm
[Dire Straits]

---

toss me a cigarette, I think there's one in my raincoat
we smoked the last one an hour ago
so I looked at the scenery, she read her magazine
and the moon rose over an open field
[Paul Simon]

Based. Lyrics are by far the least important part of music. I like to listen to foreign music so I can enjoy vocals without being inflicted by a rhymed narrative. For that matter rhyming is embarrassing. Half rhymes are good but not full rhymes.
