Is this the greatest sci-fi novel ever written, If not the greatest novel of all time?

Also, recommend some good novels.

I read "Hard to be a God" and thematically speaking loved it a lot more than Dune. Herbert is a better writer, but the Strugatsky brothers impressed me with their philosophical proficiency. Can't wait to read roadside picnic. Are the other Dune novels worth a read?

>> No.19241752

I feel like Dune filtered me a little bit. I liked the sci-fi parts a lot, but the deeper it got into destiny and mysticism the less I enjoyed it.

YES. Everything PKD!
"Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep" got me started.
"The Three Stigmata Of Palmer Eldritch" gives Lovecraft a run for his money.
"Ubik" gives postmodernism a run for its money.
The "VALIS" quadrilogy gives organized religion a run for its money.
We lost him *far* too soon.

I don’t know if it’s the greatest, but I just picked it up a few days ago after ignoring it for far to long and I’m enjoying it so far.

Try “The Past Through Tomorrow” by Heinlein. It collects most of his future history short stories and it has a lot of good stuff.

>> No.19248792

>>19243029
Having just read up to God Emperor, I really don't think one can appreciate the series without having an interest in philosophy and religion, this shit goes so far beyond the sci-fi setting, which although very well realised, is also mostly obscured from the reader and obviously not the focus of the text.
People who like it just for the sci-fi elements are the people who only like the first book and think it was a genuine Hero's Journey tale.

I really like the new movie tie in cover, the spine is the same deep black as the American edition which also looks really neat. I would buy it if it wasn't for the obnoxious circle being a part of the actual cover and not just a sticker

If they are going to do a sticker

It should be put on a book cover of Timothee Chamalent and Zendaya so white girls will read it
Keep that cover without the sticker print for the male readers

I just read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep for the first time recently and it had me confused. PKD portrays the androids as sympathetic through the majority of the book. Then in the end it flips to them being soulless opposition to humanity that needs to be destroyed. It was an entertaining story but I don't understand what he was trying to convey here.
