I can see the appeal but I find the usage of real-life races to be somewhat offputting (and frankly racist, even if Blacks see it as pro-Black it doesn’t seem so to me). Great book and actually totally not gay. I enjoyed the dialogue immensely and the story is one of the most original sci fi concepts I've read in years. Honestly everyone here memes it but if you really give it a chance it's shockingly original and intelligent writing. The gay sex parts are actually essential to the plot development and didn't turn me on at all, not that I wanted to be turned on. I'm completely straight and don't have a racist bone in my entire body. I'm just a straight and normal man who isn't into anything weird and thankfully gave this great book a try. I think everyone should read it, and it really isn't primarily smut. There is actually a ironic tone throughout, indicating that the sexual nature of the plot is in fact, avant garde, but I'll let you be the judge! My penis did not move once and I was not aroused when reading it, since I'm completely straight and not racist at all
