>Haven’t picked up capital yet.
It's very good, focuses mostly on the concentration of wealth in the top decile throughout history and how the post-world war era was the only real time where a sizeable middle class existed. There is a strong emphasis on sourcing information and putting together trends and the possible causes and also potential tax changes to address the runaway concentration of wealth that he describes with the equation "r>g", meaning return on capital is greater than the general growth of an economy.

the only issue i have is when i reread things, at the moment i put them back where i first read them when i'm done, but i'm never totally satisfied with this solution

These bindings upset pseuds not only because they're new and lack any visible signs of wear, but because by virtue of being well-crafted hardcovers they're unlikely to accumulate them any time soon. These are very disturbing qualities in books to your average il/lit/erati who yearns to demonstrate nicely creased and cracked "definitely perused and totally not pseud" paperback spines more than he wants to actually read the very pages they hold together. In their eyes, investing in a sturdy, luxurious leather or nicely decorated buckram bindings to please the owner's eye and provide the books with more longevity is antithetical to the one and only reason of owning physical books at all; that is to serve as an achievement display that would quickly and unambiguously communicate to the two drunken girls and three college dudebros who visit their studio apartment once a year just how authentically e/lit/e and genuinely well-read the owner is, whilst definitely not trying to pretend to want to hope to look like it. Plus, the price factor also breaks some typical self-imposed illusions of being a chosen member of some semi-secret class of penniless bohemian intellectuals, engaged in cultural guerilla warfare on the back line of a grand army of philistine en-pee-see bougies, that so many younger members of /pol/-for-smart-people seem to be under. These are quite hilarious idiosyncrasies and I can wholeheartedly recommend skimming through some older shelf threads to find people both accusing someone of buying particular bindings to show off and chastising the others for not having their spines project the required aura of "well-readness" quite strong enough all in a single post.

I guess you'll have to zoom in.

Re: VHS, Those are just the tapes that peek over the books. Most are stuff I recorded from TV that hasn't made it to DVD/streaming, family videos, stuff like that.

Points of interest:
1) On top of the leftmost short bookcase are the Childcraft books I got when I was like 3.
2) The leftmost tall bookcase are mostly DVDs.
3) The upper left shelf of the rightmost short bookcase...are Laserdiscs!

Cheaper books = more books. I only care about the words that are in them, I travel a lot so it makes them lighter, and traveling with nice books ruins them. I read in skateparks, metros, and workshops. Almost everywhere I go is slightly dirty. So that's why. But most importantly, penguins are better suited for the cold and I like that fresh fridge feel.

Dude, it's an anonymous website. Who gives a shit. Also fuck off with that pseud shit, just enjoy what you enjoy, and don't let narcissistic asshole dictate what you're allowed to like. When it comes to pseudism, we're all on the spectrum somewhere. The true charicature pseud is rare, we just despise pseud-like charictaristics which often get misread on this site due to the small window that presents itself into your life. Fuck them, you shouldn't care. Post bookshelf, dickhead.

Not him and I agree that the content matters more than the packaging, especially in the case of books that you'll only read once or twice, but the point of hardbacks — assuming they're not bound for show — is that they wear much better than paperbacks. Not your case since you wouldn't travel with it, but if I had to buy a massive tome like War and Peace I'd definitely go for a hardback because otherwise it would be falling apart by the time I'm done reading.

nobody reading any science journals or philosophy journals. very few who are interested in languages. do any of you wake up in the morning and wonder what you COULD have been?

consider, for a moment, that telling and appreciating stories is like 1/10000000... of what the human mind can do and maybe, just maybe, you could come to love the other stuff, even if it's initially less pleasant and requires humility and discipline.

>> No.19243299

This. The only physical journals you might have are copies where your shit is in them. Same reason you might have your own published papers printed and bound, just to have. Doesn't mean anyone else needs them that way.
