He is.

Addressing the anti-Bakker SJW from previous thread >>19200549 (1/2)

>main character of first trilogy is gay Barbarian who becomes aware of his destructive nationalistic views that lead him to try and integrate with his homophobic people

Cnaiur doesn’t hate his people for their ways. He hates them for never accepting him even when he became their ideal warrior. Yes views their views as ignorant, however he wants to be of their views. He wants to see the world as they do. But he is unable to, due to corruption Moenghus (jew) allowed to take root in his mind - “doubt” of his tradition. Ironically, however, his innate nature is one fighting against that doubt. Even when he rejects the people, their ways still eat away at him (reread TTT). His lust for Moenghus is still shameful. His faults still hurt him. THIS is why, even though he was completely entranced with Moenghus he was able to pull out that chorae and kill him. And he grieved. But ultimately he returned to his people, conquered them, and erased all doubts about whether he is of the people. This is why he doesn’t care when Mimara said he is not of the people at the great ordeal. Because he’s certain he was. Doubt had no place in his mind at the end. Only hatred for his enemies did.

> Yeah not compassion, that was poor wording, but instead the toxicity of conviction in your own beliefs and lack of desire to negotiate. The great lesson akka left to proyas is doubt. The toxicity of religion in bakkers books is in the conviction it gives people to commit atrocities.

Bakker actually admits “doubt” cannot win wars. Kellhus realizes that he must rid people of all doubt to win the Great Ordeal. Since Kellhus’s people are all of three seas, he must rid them of their past nationalist tendencies as well, so they don’t bicker durin the ordeal. He doesn’t destroy nationalism, though. He just destroys the peoples past nationalist connections, in order to create new ones towards “the new empire”. The only way people may be absolutely loyal to it is if their connections to their past nations are broken. Cnaiur’s secret of battlefield is “conviction”. Yes, conviction rids of compassion, but Bakker does not present it as absolutely negative thing. Sometimes there has to be no compassion to succeed and utter conviction. Hence the battle at Caraskand at end of Warrior-Prophet. That any doubt needs to be erased from minds of humans for them to succeed against the external threat. For as much as Bakker barks about virtues of doubt the story seems to show otherwise. The only proponent of “doubt” is a butthurt cucklord.

> one of main characters of second trilogy is a blonde twink who gets blacked
It’s a Greco-Roman bromance of two soldiers rather than faggotry. It’s normal in Zeum, which the country the black comes from, where soldiers are often “lovers” when away from their families. Similarly to Spartans.

> nationalism is constantly described as ignorant

Yes, by the Dunyain. They believe it is ignorant because they view anything connected to emotion and history is ignorant. Reminder that Dunyain are literally headed for eternal damnation because of their views in Bakkers world. That’s actually why Kellhus rejects Mod (he believes moe will align with consult to prevent his own damnation). Dunyain are ultra atheist who are ultimately WRONG. The gods exist. So do sorceries. So do demons. By trashing the ignorance of nationalism/religion/esoterics they themselves became ignorant. Even then, the Dunyain view nationalism as necessary. Kellhus forges a nationalistic and religious identity for his own nation to better his chances at succeeding against the consult.

> a long monologue in 2nd book by a man who has a near godly intellect about how women are equal to men. Goes on to teach sorcery for women in second trilogy.

Him not “lying” refers mostly to unspoken truths he speaks about people, that eat away at their heart, winning it as a result. He says the truth they repress. His conversation with Esmenet is much of the same. He does not say that women are equal due to his belief in it, rather, due to Esmenets belief in it. He speaks the repressed, inconceivable (within the confines of society Esmenet lives in) belief Esmenet has and wins her over.

Kellhus creates sorcerous schools for women, sure. But it’s based, because through kellhus’s 200iq point of view Bakker admits that women have no place in the military outside of sorcery. That they no military value and are weak. Even a person such as Kellhus, who is completely ridden of all bigotries, only found one use for women beyond being child factories.

> most powerful god is a woman (Yatwer)

Not really. She is a goddess of FERTILITY. The most powerful female goddess is one innately connected to childbirth, thus, denoting women’s role in society. And yes she fights for oppressed but that’s not particularly left wing at it’s core. Her fighting for slaves does not make her a libtard goddess.

Yes, Bakker might be left wing and tried to instill those values into his books. But he failed and created a series that is based and makes women and SJWs seethe. BAKKER CHADS STAY WINNING.

Yeh certainty is a double edged sword the point I was making was more in response that Bakker considers it wholly negative. It makes people prone to deception but it has its place.

I don’t actually think he wants to fuck kellhus. If you mean the scene at a beach cnaiur thougt kellhus was moe. Even if he didn’t his attraction to kellhus likely comes from attraction to moenghus, so it’s still inseparable from his childhood trauma. (It’s said that kellhus resembles moe closely)

And about the skin spies shit, I’m not sure but I think he only fucks skin spies when they look like seres, who he was attracted to before she grew a dick. A.k.a he’s not necessarily attracted nor repulse from the cock. (he didn’t love serwe but he was obviously still attracted to her which is why he built up an image of her as his proof: his attraction to her served as a proof of his heterosexuality). He’s likely just bisexual (hard gay) like pretty much every main character.

I like to read short stories as a kind of palate cleanser (for lack of a better term) between books. Looking for recommendations of collections/anthologies/omnibi/whatever-they-are-called of short stories that I can pick up, read for a story or two and then put down until a later day.

Strict requirements:
>decently light and portable, so no more than ~400 pages. no doorstoppers. I want to be able to read this on the bus
>stories that are more or less standalone works and can be read in any order

Other preferences, in descending order of importance:
>font size that's not meant for ants
>variety of authors and themes
>includes lesser known authors
>newer collections are better (can include older stories, but curating them later gives you the benefit of hindsight, I think)

Preferably sf, though fantasy is also ok if it meets the above criteria (I don't think much of it does though)
Pic related is a book that I accidentally got when my university was getting rid of it, it's a pretty good example of what I'm talking about. I especially liked "Placet is a Crazy Place".

Why are there not modern novels like wheel of time? Epic fantasies that have most of the book be boring over detailed stories that spend more time expanding the world than showing this cool chad mc solving everything.

Please recommend well written fantasy novels that can improve my shitty prose while being entertaining at the same time. Fang Ping finally settled an issue after wasting half an hour of his life. He wasn’t dreaming nor acting —for God’s sake, if acting in a movie could restore his youth, then the film crew deserved a trip to heaven immediately!

After verifying that he had reincarnated, Fang Ping felt a wave of panic before settling down and accepting the truth.

What was the truth? It was that he had indeed reincarnated into a younger version of himself, and since he was equipped with his knowledge of the future, he was going to seize the day and become the next-big-thing in the business world! He was going to be rich!

That was that, until his friend interrupted him.

“So are you signing up for the martial sciences exam?”

What? Was this a joke? Or had he been handed the wrong script? Was this even the right universe? What was martial sciences? Why did the exam cost 10 thousand bucks to sign up? Loaded with questions, Fang Ping will soon realize that he might not have struck the jackpot as he had initially thought…

The book didn't hit me as hard as Warrior-Prophet but it was still a ride well worth the ticket. Just when you think Achamian couldn't suffer any more, he suffers more. There were some monumental disappointments though: Conphas' death RIP, Maithanet and Aurang blueballs see ya in the next book, Moenghus revealed to be a sickly weak fag a la Dark Towers Crimson King (although the explanation of his life made me sad for some reason, I realised how shit-lucky Kellhus got during his journeys), every time Esmenet chapters rolled in I groaned in disgust. In the end, Fanim fought like beasts and deserved to win.

The Last Mortal Bond, Chronicle of the Unhewn Throne #3 - Brian Staveley
This book opens with a time skip to solidify the changes at the end of the second book and for the characters to basically say "This is who we are now". I'm not really in favor of lot of stuff happening between books and just being described but I didn't let that get in the way of my enjoyment.
I don't know if I was noticing it more than usual or if it was actually the case, but there really is a lot of consistent action throughout the book. Events just occur one after another at a very brisk pace. A lot happens quickly, both in terms of time passed and page count. That's not only in terms of plot, it's the same for the characters as well. Their development seemed unnaturally fast, even forced at times, and by the end I was wondering if these could really said to be the same characters as they were at the start of the book, let alone at the start of the previous books.
Even so, it was a lot of fun, and for something like this, that's all that really matters to me. There's definitely a lot that I could understand that others could be less charitable about and rate it lower, but I overlooked the nonsense, and was amused as it became sillier. I don't know that I've ever read anything else with such incompetently successful protagonists, which apparently I appreciated. Fortunately for them there were a lot of competent secondary characters and they were who really mattered in terms of it being a good time.
The ending was fine, though it didn't quite go how I thought it would, but after the ending that was the second book it was a less of surprise. I had thought it was going for an ending that's relatively common in JRPGs, but it didn't follow though. Maybe it should have though. I'm conflicted. It's not really a type of ending I favor, but it would've made sense here.
I was planning on reading the first book in the next trilogy when it released a few months ago, but it seems my book reading whims didn't go that way. I'm eager to read about how these broken people with their broken lives in a broken land go for broke. Next for the series though is the standalone book. As always I don't know what or when I'll read next. Probably sooner than later.
Rating: 4/5

I read the first book, and no, you don't want to hear my thoughts on it. If you insist you can search the archive, provided in the OP. Just search cixin for the text and sffg for the tripcode. It's one of a few that got the more response, in terms of negative replies here and "likes" in the GR group, but it's also one of that I'm the least pleased with having written. It starts with "I was irrationally upset when I wrote this" and it's all downhill from there. I should rewrite it, but I probably won't.

Just finished this, picked it up expecting pulp after going through a pile of classics, but was pleasantly intrigued and entertained. It goes through a very omniscient, almost satirical, Brave New World-esque approach to life in technically-advanced 80's London from a viewpoint written in the 30's, to people talking on a spaceship with typical characterization, musing on themes on man's relation with technology, to something wildly different once they get to Mars. Nothing especially unique, but fun in the whiplash from projecting a fear of industrialization to a 30's conception of robots, to Brits fighting Soviets over who has a right to Mars, to constant rape attempts towards the titular, can't-stop-fainting "stowaway". Haven't read anything else by Wyndham, anyone recommend which novel of his I should pick up next?

How often do you see good works with settings where there are no humans? A sci-fi book with only alien races or fantasy books with no humans around. Are there any inherent issues with stories like these?

Wondering if you may be able to help me /sffg/; I read a fantasy novel some 20-30 years ago and I cannot for the life of me remember what it was called or who it was by. What I can remember is somewhat vague.
>Castle that rearranges itself/people get lost in but people still live there. Only one old man seems to understand or communicate with said castle.
>Main protagonist is a silent, stoic warrior dude that ends up getting swallowed by some giant snake/lizard/dragon.
>Elements of totem animal worship. Female side character worships eagle or hawk totem or something.
>Side story about a girl home alone who thinks her "house" has monsters in it and is afraid. She only has an old man to talk to (find out at the end the girl IS the castle and the old man she talks to is the old man from the castle.)

I know that isn't much to work off but if any of you recognise this please help an anon out. Thanks in advance.

No idea.

I read malazan. Terrible series. Not worth reading.

Dune? After book one it gets retarded.

Thomas Covenant? I’ve tried to read it three times. It’s just boring I can’t stick with it.

Book of the new sun series? Again, so boring it was a real struggle to slog through.

I think I’ve read every fantasy series available (except Brandon Sanderson ).

I’m considering making a switch to sci-fi bc I think fantasy is currently dead.

>Kellhus concludes that Moe will join with Consult because he's damned due to his "evil deeds"
>At that moment he is already marked by sorcery use, therefore he is just as damned and aware of that. Regardless of what else he would do, he does not have any conditions for not being assraped by ciphrang for eternity.
>At that moment he is already aware that "gods" are just most powerful ciphrang.
>At that moment he is already aware that Consult works towards barring ciphrang from access to mortal souls
>At that moment he is not yet aware of Daimotic sorcery which he later used to do some shit in Outside which made him believe that he would work his way around damnation.
So I just put it together, and looks like I got his interaction with Moe wrong. Did he really go completely batshit insane in mundane sense of this word and not in Dunyain sense of no longer being driven by pure reason? Because if you're magic user, who knows full truth about Outside and things related to it, rational reasons to not assist Consult to the best of your ability simply do not exist. The only exception is Daimotic sorcery that offers some alleged alternative path to solve that problem, but as of end of TTT he was not aware of it.

I know this may not be the best place but I was looking for some feedback on a sci-fi piece I'm currently working on.

>Detective Jehali investigates a string of murders that are unlike anything the Hive-City has ever seen. The case makes an excellent proving ground for this seasoned detective to show his young protege what it takes to deal with the gritty side of the Hive.

>In a mining colony on Mars, teenage Zik struggles to come to terms with his eventual return to Earth with his parents. Being the first human born on Mars, Earth doesn't feel like it will be the home his parents promise him.

If SciFi dystopian noir is of interest, have a read, let me know what you think. I'm trying to get feedback to improve and edit while I work. Currently sitting at around 30k words. pdf at the following MEGA:

Kellhus was affected by a god, by a darkness that comes before. He wasn’t insane, some of his actions just came from the unknown, just like for normal men. I guess all the Dunyan go a little bit nuts after leaving Ishuäl because there are so many variables. Already in the first trilogy it isn’t clear to Kellhus why he took Serwe and Esmenet as his women, he left some strange pull towards them and didn’t know why.

Moe hadn’t been touched by a god so he believed Kellhus mad. Moe believed that god is asleep and wouldn’t interfere with the world.

In the long run Kellhus doesn’t want to close the world from outside, he wants to become a god. If he closed the world he would die eventually without afterlife. If we conquered the outside he would become a god.

There is never a good explanation why Kellhus and the others see the halos around his hands.

Moe had failed in his mission and needed Kellhus to fulfil TTT but he hadn’t expected TTT to be different. Eventually they realise they are enemies.

What really drives me nuts is how in Bakker books, what comes after determines that comes before. All the unexplained actions of Kellhus lead eventually to the birth of his son who would become the No-God If you read the books closely you’ll realise that Kelmomas is very similar to Nau-Cayuti which made him compatible with the sarcophag
