Authorial intent does not matter much. It matters only incidentally, insofar as an obvious clash between authorial intent and what has actually been written may be jarring if it leads to great inconsistencies in what has been written (although not necessarily in an uninteresting way), but that is clearly not the case in the quoted passage.

If it was her intent to portrary the character as actually wonderful and right and bright, and not as insufferable and arrogant, she has failed so consistently in that endeavour that her intent does not matter. The result is consistent either through consistent succes of authorial intent or consistent failure of authorial intent.
