I tried it, it was too theoretical. Religious practices of detachment (Hindu, Christian, whatever) seem to produce bigger effects without the wanna-be-rationalist copes like Aurelius "citizen of cosmos".

I’ve read the meditations, senica and Epictetus. What I got from it is that you should confront death in everything, temper your emotions against pain by instilling a sense of nihilism about it (from what I remember the way you do this is by tempering your reaction to all things, including the food that happens to you), and live with a sense of duty (despite your disregard for the outcome of things). I find the last two things very hard to reconcile. I’m also not a huge fan of the life denying nature of not celebrating victory as well as the danger of under emphasizing failure to the point of not learning from it. I don’t mind the confronting death to big but i can see a concern of accidentally making it a fixation that can in turn put a gloom and looming dread on every action you take (again a bit life denying).
