Having recently read Caribbean, and now working through Iberia, I find myself greatly enjoying the work of James Michener. Any suggestions on what I should read next? Also, Michener discussion thread.

Try London by Edward Rutherford. His scope is similar to Mitchener's.

So once upon a time in America, rural areas had to deal with what they call a "party line" - every telephone in the area is on the same circuit, and you just have to assume nobody's listening in. Michener lived in one such area.

So one day he's on the phone to his agent discussing a complicated contract. After much two-ing and fro-ing there's a long silence, and then somebody whispers, "Take it, Michener, you fool!"
