Can we use this thread to make a list of literature that is in danger of getting pozzed in the coming years? Should someone try to preserve the most important titles first or the most vulnerable things first?
I know there are people here who are trying to get a few books they particularly care about in print just in case.

Yeah this. It's easy to LARP as Stallman and go "hurrr just buy local with cash" I literally cannot afford to pay double the amount for a shitty local translation of the book I am looking for, because God forbid they sell books in the original language, and that's assuming the bookstore does have the book at all.
Whenever I ask for something that isn't the latest celebrity pile of toilet paper the store owner looks at me like I'm a schizo.
Same with literally any store and any product that is not what 99% of what the average consumer asks for. I asked for a 0.3mm pencil in a shop for stationery and office shit and the owner looked at me funny and said "those don't exist, only 0.5mm exists" not "we don't have 0.3", but "0.3mm doesn't exist". By the way they were stocking 0.3mm leads when I looked, but the pencils didn't exist according to the store owner. Eventually I got it from another store and I paid literally twice as much for it than I would have if I got it off Amazon. Oh yeah sure I'm not funneling money into a dystopian nightmare but I'd also run out of money for the bare necessities. Mr. Stallman is pretty much asking me to stop reading and stop doing whatever I need to do so that I can deal this surely devastating blow to Amazon's internal economy, which AFAIK doesn't even rely that much on online shopping anymore, because AWS is where most of its money is made. Starting to really detest RMS and other LARPers like that.

Get a Pocketbook Inkpad 3 or Inkpad Color, or an Android Onyx Color. In the end, all you're paying for is branding and ease of use, the screens are all the same due to e-ink monopoly.

While the original Domesday Book of 1086 is still readable today, there were great fears that the discs of the 1986 Domesday Project would become unreadable as software and disk drives capable of reading the format became rarer and rarer. However, in 2002 the CAMiLEON project migrated the information to a system called DomesEm, allowing it to be accessed on modern computers.[11] More recently, the Domesday86 Project has continued this preservation effort by developing a digitizer for the original LaserDiscs and emulation software for the original BBC Domesday computer system.

I'm trying to help people make informed choices. Your e-ink panel is all coming from the same place so the only differences are
1. Firmware
2. Ergonomics
For example, the Kobo Clara HD vs the Pocketbook Touch HD 3; same screen, 50 bucks less, no required signup (but there is an internal Pocketbook store, if you want to) or firmware required.
Make sure you like the ergonomics and it's comfortable for you to hold, and the screen is 300dpi (most are, but above 8' screens they'll get into low resolutions).

By all means, get a Kobo. The Forma is a great. I sold it and got an Onyx Boox Nova 3 Color so I can read manga and comics as well, it's literally an Android tablet with an e-ink screen.
I was initially going to get the Pocketbook Inkpad Color because it's 100€ cheaper but 7,8' > 6'.

Nope, they're a Swiss company that's been making their own e-readers for a little over a decade now.

They've got a custom Linux-based Pocketbook OS, but you can sideload KOReader. They're more limited than Onyx or Kobo, for sure, because of the fact it's not Android-based.

I seriously hope you guys don't do this.

Use a tethering connection from your phone for the initial setup. Then delete the network in the Kindle, enable Airplane Mode and change the phone's tethering ID.

Only transfer non-DRM books via USB, using Calibre. Calibre can remove (most) DRM via plugins anyway.

I haven't connected my Kindle to the web since I bought it. I load every single epub I can from libgen, it's comfy as fuck.

It's just as bright as normal e-readers. You can filter blue light in the colour settings. According to these guys, the colours on the Pocketbook arejust a tad bit better, the Onyx is also 400€ compared to the Pocketbook's 300€.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duEN2mFkwpA

Honestly it's a shame there's no 9-10 inch screens yet with 300dpi Kaleido Plus, because 7.8 is, for western comics, just a tad too small.
You can't change the Pocketbook's reader to go right-to-left, while you can obv install a proper manga reader on the Onyx (because Android).

I'd recommend it if you can afford it.

Lol at all the e-reader sóyboys in this thread
>IT'S BACKED UP BRO

Ummm sorry sweaty, I guess you hadn't heard about the cosmic rays? Well guess what, Earth is being bombarded by ionic particles from the Sun and outer space, and every now and then one will hit just right to flip a bit in your hard drive. All magnetic storage is at risk, including disks, USB, solid state, etc. Due to increasing sunspot activity and reduced absorption of the atmosphere this problem is increasing more and more, and likely limits the lifespan of most consumer electronics to 10-20 years.

This is why people who live in high elevation cities are always having their hard drive fail. It's also why the software and hardware in aircraft has to be written especially to be tolerant of these errors. But even at sea level you are not safe.

Furthermore, because of compressed and/or encrypted file formats used by e-books, it only takes a few off-by-one errors to make the data unreadable without significant effort. Before you are even halfway old, all your "backups" will have deteriorated into a sloppy mess.

BTW this means that on archaeological timescales, nothing digital will survive without constant maintenance. The only true way to transmit the contents of civilization to posterity is good quality physical writings, which can last thousands of years if well mode.
