It's October, /lit/. I've decided to invest my time reading those classic gothic horrors everyone's seen as the kitsch movie adaptations. Started off with Bram Stoker's Dracula. About a quarter of the way in now, and I quite enjoy it. It does well to establish an eerie atmosphere, and the journal format is really suited to getting into the protagonist's perspective.

I remember my first read of Dracula smack dab in the middle of October. Overcast, windy days. Leaves blowing across my windows. Wooden support beams creaking under the stress.

What a comfy read that was.

Oh yes. Just ordered a limited edition copy of stokers Dracula that should be here by the 10th. Can’t wait to sip some gay pumpkin shit while I read it. I love this time of year

Dracula is great, I hate how much shit it takes. But I also think the 200 years of vampire obsession which followed are more to blame for modern readers complaints.
I' m reading Frankenstein now. it's just alright

Frankenstein, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and anything by H.P. Lovecraft are on my list. I did read War of the Worlds last year for some cosmic horror.

How is October spooky? Do categories scare you?

Good god this made me laugh

Anyone know any novels that are genuinely scary? As in they will make you frightened? I have read some HP Lovecraft and plenty of other short horror works online, but it seems the literary medium just doesn't scare me like a movie, or even an audio version can.

If you get scared by a book about ghost or monsters than you’re probably retarded. I like spooky ghost stories because they’re comfy.
